“That’s not fair. Where’s my kiss?” Adrian asks in a sullen tone. I hurriedly pull my lips from Maximus’ entirely too soon, in fear of Adrian actually being upset. But he only gives me his signature mischievous grin, clearly knowing exactly what effect his words would have on me.

I huff out a breath of annoyance, but a devious smirk of my own quickly replaces my frown as my gaze roves over each of my mates.

“Oh, don’t you worry, you’ll each get your turn tonight,” I purr, and Adrian’s face lights up at the playful words. Kyros lets loose an amused chuckle, and Maximus grips my hand tighter. My eyes finally land on Mateo’s, holding his, pointedly, willing him to hear the promise I’m making. He shudders under the weight of my gaze, and I see the heated look he returns.

“Okay, enough of that. I’m jealous of you enough, no need to rub it in that you have four men you can engage in group activities with.” She giggles, and my cheeks heat at her implication. My mind replays all the fantasies I’ve had so far, my palms growing sweaty under the guys’ intense stares, assessing my reaction.

I dart my gaze away from them, disentangling my fingers from Max’s to rush over to Nelle and wrap my arm around hers. I don’t miss the pointed look Adrian gives me before I turn away, a look that promises this conversation will be continued.

I swear, if I don’t get out of here now, these men are going to make me melt in a puddle of need right here in the middle of the hallway. I attempt to cross my legs over each other as I tug Nelle towards the door, desperately craving some sort of friction between them. But the result ends up with me nearly tripping again, much to the amusement of everyone else, including Nelle, who tugs me up with her arm, chortling as we stride to the door. I choose to tune out the chorus of muffled laughter behind me, tilting my chin up to bolster the confidence I find escaping me at this moment.

“It was seriously hardto believe before that you’re a god now, but actually seeing you use your powers to bring us here … that was incredible,” Nelle exclaims, her arm still entwined with mine as we climb the stairs to the school entrance with the guys’ footsteps sounding behind us. I keep my gaze trained forward, though, not ready to meet their eyes yet.

I mull over Nelle’s words, taking a moment to appreciate how far I’ve come. My own admittance that my powers now flow from me naturally, in stark contrast to what Nelle had experienced, never having used my powers in front of her before.

“You look so happy, Liv. I’m so glad you’ve found this place, and your gods,” she whispers, bumping me with her hip, her eyes glistening in the faint orb light. I squeeze her arm, giving her a grateful smile, not sure what I did to deserve such an amazing, supportive friend.

Guardians line the entrance, and a few that I recognize nod as we pass. Their white wings are tucked against their backs as they keep their gazes trained on the distance, ready to defend the students at a moment’s notice. A new security measure my father instated is that the only way to dissipate now is by the courtyard. The guys’ offices pose too great a security threat to the school. Therefore, there’s only one entrance to defend, rather than splitting up their main force.

Of course, most of them still guard the former council members’ residence. I eye the corridor warily across from the dining hall, put at ease at least by the fact that a squad of guardians patrol their every move.

I pull in a deep breath as we come to a stop in front of the dining hall, steeling myself before coming face to face with the other students. It’s been a week since the entire school froze, seeing me surrounded by all the light majors, in addition to a troop of guardians. I’m unsure of how my reception will be, especially given the council’s insistence that the trials need to be pushed up for my sake.

A warm palm rubs my shoulder in a comforting gesture, and I look up to Adrian’s crystal blue gaze. He gives me a small smile, his other hand reaching over me to push open the door in a gesture of support. A grateful answering smile stretches across his lips.

“I guess I’ll give you a moment, but just watch it, god boy, I have my eye on you,” Nelle warns, giving him an ‘I’m watching you’ gesture before blowing me a kiss and entering through the doors to find the others. The rest of the guys stream through the doors next, leaving us to have a moment alone. Maximus grimaces as he enters through, not really one to frequent social gatherings. But, the fact that he’s willing to put that aside for tonight, for me, warms my chest.

My breath catches in my throat as I take in the room before me, my brain not registering the transformation until now. The usual marble walls are replaced with an ornate gold patterned wallpaper, gold arches line the ceiling, and fine tapestries drape along the walls. A smooth wooden railing stands just before us, with stairs descending on either side. A large dance floor starts at the landing, and a DJ is setting up on the far side. But instead of the usual club music I’m used to, classic instruments play from invisible speakers, the sound reverberating around the room, drowning out the conversations from students spread out across the dance floor already.

Adrian wraps his arms around my waist, standing behind me, his lips trailing up the sensitive skin of my neck. He places light kisses, making his way up to my ear, the sensual caress sending shivers of desire up my spine.

“Do you like it?” Adrian whispers in my ear, before lightly scraping his teeth across my earlobe, causing a moan of pleasure to escape me. I slap a hand over my mouth as he chuckles, his breath huffing against my ear.

“You did all this?” I say in wonder, redirecting my thoughts away from his teasing and back to the room before me. I’m not sure why I even asked the question. I still forget at times that my guys are all-powerful gods, capable of near-impossible feats.

“You deserve to have an extravagant evening after all your hard work,” he whispers, kissing my neck once more. I almost push him back out the door to continue this further, that is, until I see Kali waving to me across the dancefloor. Her cobalt satin gown looks just as gorgeous as when she tried it on yesterday, hugging her curves perfectly.

I glance at Adrian, and he pauses, his lips stilling just above my skin as he notices Kali’s wave too. He lets loose a groan of frustration, slowly easing away, as though waiting for me to protest, and I can’t help my giggle.

“To be continued?” I ask, tilting my head up, and his lips descend on mine, the sudden move startling a squeak from me before I relax into the kiss, my mouth moving against his in a soft, sweet caress.

“I’m holding you to that,” he whispers, pulling his mouth back from mine slightly, his crystal blue gaze sparkling with mischief. I’m about to ask him what exactly he’s planning, when his large, masculine hand cups my ass, giving it a light squeeze. I jerk in surprise, not having expected the move. A laugh bursts from Adrian’s lips.

I stalk away from him to descend the stairs, careful to hold the hem of my dress up again, not wanting to topple down the stairs. Adrian slides his arm around mine, helping to keep me steady, breaths of amusement still escaping him.

I grumble a mix of curses under my breath, which only serves to make his laughter increase. Not that I’m actually angry, but I just love seeing him like this, his laughter music to my ears after the weeks of silence.

Kali waves us over, having found a table with the others not far from the stairs. A few bottles of champagne are already there, along with crystal flutes. Kali takes a seat beside Stacia, who’s wearing a pink strapless gown, and she smiles in greeting. Nelle passes Adrian and me flutes, and I eagerly grasp the cool glass, giving her a grateful smile.

Kyros and Maximus are already seated, and we slide into chairs across from them. I glance around the room, attempting to search for Mateo and find him propped up against a wall, a position I honestly had expected Max to take, given his reluctance for social gatherings.

Domenic refuses to meet my gaze. He looks away, not saying a word, his arm draped across Nelle’s shoulders.

I give Zina and Lucas a small wave where they sit further down the table, which they both return. But Lucas’ eyes dart away a moment later, and glue to Zina, as though still in disbelief that she agreed to accompany him.

“Ugh, you’re all so cute, my little heart can’t handle it,” I squeal, my heart lightening at the sight of all my friends so happy. Zina giggles and Lucas’ cheeks redden at my notice of his staring. Nelle gives an awkward chuckle, looking to Domenic and then back to me. Okay, something is definitely going on there.
