“I seriously can’t handle this music anymore,” Nelle sighs, clapping her hands over her ears dramatically. She finishes off her glass of champagne, pouring another for herself … and me when I extend my glass to her.

“Cheers bitch.” She tings her glass to mine and downs the cool liquid before the bubbles have even settled. I arch an eyebrow at her, and she shrugs, just pouring another.

“Let’s go get something a bit stronger,” I hedge, sensing Nelle’s need to talk. I slide my chair back, holding my hand out for her to take. “Be right back.” I smile at my guys, and they nod in agreement, their gazes moving between the two of us.

Nelle skips to my side, grasping my hand in hers, and leads me straight to the bar, already having the perfect route mapped out.

“Is something going on?” I ask hesitantly, very aware of the mix of interested and disgruntled looks I receive as we make our way through the ballroom.

“I don’t know, we’ve only been here a few minutes, but Domenic is acting super sketchy. He asked me to come here, but he’s barely said two words to me so far.” She grumbles as we reach the bar, propping her arms on top of the smooth wooden surface.

“Well then, we’ll have a girls’ night, you’re single girl, party it up.”

Nelle’s eyes light up at my words, and I can’t help the answering smile. “Two shots of tequila, please?” I ask the bartender, and he nods, pulling out shot glasses and the bottle of liquor.

“Make it four,” Nelle corrects, shooting me a devious look. He plucks two more shot glasses, and I groan at the golden liquid being poured into them. Nelle cackles maniacally before elbowing me playfully.

We standat the bar and take our shots, Nelle still wanting a bit of space between her and Domenic. The haze of alcohol works its way over my body as I sip on another glass of champagne.

“We need music,” Nelle declares, her gaze whipping around the room, searching for something.

“There is music Nelle, see?” I say, humming to the classical instruments and missing most of the notes. The sound coming from my lips is nothing like the music echoing around the room. Nelle giggles at my attempt and joins in, the two of us drawing looks of both amusement and annoyance from other students approaching the bar.

“No. Music we can dance to,” Nelle declares as the bartender slides two more shots our way. “Thank Dan, you’re a gem,” Nelle calls back to him.

“How do you know his name is Dan?” I ask curiously, already guessing her response.

“I don’t, he just looks like one.” Nelle shrugs, picking up her shot glass and throwing the golden liquid back, and I choke a laugh at her admission.

“Alright, alright, chuckles, take your shot. I have a plan.” Nelle smirks, and I groan, knowing this cannot be good.

I throw back my shot, following it up with a wedge of lime, sucking the tart fruit between my teeth.

“Okay, what is this master plan of yours?” I ask in amusement, placing the wedge in the glass and sliding them both back onto the bar.

“We’re going to put on some decent music. I’ll distract the DJ, and you get a playlist ready,” Nelle whispers conspiratorially, tapping her fingers together like the evil mastermind she is.

Shrugging, I pull out my phone and queue up a dance playlist—the fog of alcohol settling over me makes it seem like a great idea. I let her take the lead, strutting towards the DJ, and I follow a few steps behind.

I glance to the table, and the guys’ curious stares are on me, but I place a finger over my lips, my mouth forming an inaudible shhh.

Nelle, flips her hair behind her shoulder, showing off her cleavage to the DJ. His head immediately dips, completely distracted by her as he pretends to listen to what she’s saying.

I stifle my laughter and search through the discarded cords for a moment before finding the right one. Oh, this was going to be too easy. I connect the cable into the sound system and plug in my phone. I start the music and unplug his laptop at the same moment. The abrupt change in sources causes a blaring noise to ring out around the room before the pumping bass takes over. Cheers ring out around the room at the new music being blasted through the invisible speakers.

“What was your plan now?” The DJ glances back and forth between the two of us with an expectant look, and we just shrug, not having thought that far ahead in our tipsy states. “Whatever, I honestly don’t care.” And with that, he stalks off to the bar, muttering something unintelligible under his breath.

Nelle and I just look at each other for a moment before turning to our friends. Our hands raise as we cheer in our success.

Adrian and Kyros both look amused while Maximus hides his face in his hands. I glance over at Mateo, catching his amused grin a second before he schools his expression and looks away.

Nelle and I race over to the table to drag the others out onto the dancefloor, since they sit still, watching us with amusement. I dodge past students, ignoring the glares I pass by.

“Let’s dance,” I exclaim, excitedly motioning towards the guys. I pull Adrian and Kyros up without a fight, but when I reach for Maximus, he gives me an incredulous look.

“I don’t dance,” he grumbles, glowering back at me as he crosses his arms over his muscular chest. I open my mouth to protest when he cuts me off. “I’ll watch.”
