“You didn’t call me back,” Cedric grunts.

I can all but sense his annoyance.

“Considering I’ve been quite busy over the weeks, I didn’t have a chance,” I retort sarcastically.

“Maybe if you did, I could’ve helped resolve one of your problems.”

I tense, grip the phone tighter. “And that would be?”

“Arwen,” he answers.

I sigh in relief knowing they have her. With them I know she’s in safe hands. Cedric’s boss is a woman who’s also a pimp, and she takes care of her girls. She also has respect for the women who work for her.

“Is she okay?” I ask cautiously.

“Yeah, but you need to know a few things,” Cedric states with a nonchalant tone. One I might add doesn’t give me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

“First off, your uncle’s men roughed her up. She’s healed, but she’s scared they’ll come for her again,” he says and gentles his tone. “Second, I’m not about to let that happen. She’s mine and I’m not going to let anything happen to her. Let alone allow him to have her.”

“So, you know who she’s intended to marry?” I don’t need to ask this. He’s already confirmed without even confirming.

“Yeah,” Cedric mutters, the sound of a door opening in the background, and he muffles the call. I don’t know who it is, but I’m guessing from the fact it’s a woman’s voice, it could be my sister. “We wanted you to know and hope you’ll keep your mouth shut. I don’t want this getting back to your father or any of them. She’s safe with me and until you have them taken out I’m keeping her locked down.”

He doesn’t give me a chance to respond before hanging up.

Breathing a sigh of relief, I toss my phone on the table. I can at least be happy she’s safe. Now it’s time to end the threats against her. One thing at a time. First, my adoring father and his brothers. Next, Cesare Gheata.

CHAPTERTWO

ARWEN

“Hey, Arwen.” Suke greets her as she comes out of a small office that Finley and Mara-Lee had done up for her.

A few days ago, Finley decided I needed something to do to keep myself sane, but also be able to stay safe. Cedric mentioned to her that I am great with numbers. Finley had me look over a few things for her. I did, and then she double checked it. She saw just how good I was and hired me as the accountant for Night’s Bliss. But it’s not just the night club. To my very much surprised mind, the second floor of the building is where men or women can have sex with one of the Bliss girls as they like to be called. I couldn’t help but giggle the first time Suke and Chasity told me why they preferred to be called that rather than call girls, escorts, or whatnot. They work for Night’s Bliss. They bring bliss to the men or women who pay the fee and it’s not a small one that’s for sure.

“Hey, Suke,” I murmur, giving her a shy smile. I love being here, but I’m still skittish and not used to being around so many people.

The girls who work here, though, they make it easy. They even gave me advice over the past few days. Some things I never dreamed of doing with a man.

I mean, from the time I was fourteen, my uncle ordered his men to rape me. Ciro, one of his goons, took great pleasure in this. Especially when I was forced to go to Tainted X, where they would issue punishments. Those punishments will forever leave me with nightmares.

With Cedric’s gentle touch, he showed me the difference between what is enjoyable and what they did. Those vile men might have taken my virginity, defiled me, and degraded me. Cedric though, he gave me something special and in return I’m falling for him so much more. In bed with him, it’s never the same thing. It’s always different, and each time we’ve had sex it was that much better.

Even more, I’m falling in love with the man. I’ve read a lot of books where couples fall for each other on sight. I feel that way when it comes to Cedric. Three weeks ago, he told me he was going to talk to my brother. I knew he tried to call him, but my brother didn’t answer, and as far as I know, he hasn’t called back. I’m positive that Cedric will tell me when he does speak with him. He’s not a man who would lie. At least not to those he cares for.

“By chance have you seen Mara-Lee?” Suke asks coming closer.

“No,” I answer, cocking my head to the side. “Is everything okay?” Something about her stance seems off.

“Yeah, um, yeah, I just need to talk with Mara-Lee.” She nods profusely.

“I can call her if you like?” I suggest but she’s already shaking her head.

“No, I’ll catch up to her later.” Suke darts off, before I can say anything else to her.

I furrow my brow in confusion. Okay, I don’t know what that’s all about, but in the little bit of time I’ve been here, I haven’t seen her look like that.

I finish up what I’m doing and decide to go down to Cedric’s office to see him. Normally he comes up here to check on me but he’s not done that see we got here today. Maybe I’m just being weird, I just like to be around him as much as I can.
