I stared at Roman. “Not wolf shifters?”

He shook his head, dismissing Kaz words. “Of course they are,” he said in a low voice.

Kaz probably didn’t hear what Roman said as he went on, “And they're here for the dragon.”

“What? How do you know?” Ivy asked.

“Because the girl said I reeked of dragon, probably from the tracking spell I’ve been doing with the scale,” he said simply. “And she confessed to tracking the dragon.”

“Shit,” Ivy muttered. “This means, we have competition.”

Kaz nodded once. “It does.”

“Then what are you waiting for?” Ivy gestured to his legs. “Floor it!”

Kaz stepped on it. He was already driving over the speed limit. Now it felt reckless, but I wouldn’t be the one to say anything.

I looked out the window, the world speeding by me, and a sense of confusion and loneliness wrapped over me like a heavy blanket. I was missing something; I just didn’t know what.

“The demon lives well,”Doreen observed.

“I expected more,” Ariella said.

“I expected more doom and gloom,” Thierry commented. “Like, maybe a dark mansion or even a large cave. But not this.”

I suppressed a groan. What did it matter where the demon lived? As long as we were able to get to him, it didn’t.

After extracting the information from Soghen, Doreen killed the bastard anyway. She said he had a file with the Blackthorn Hunters and she couldn’t let him go, even if he wasn’t in trouble at that moment.

He told us Prince Paimon had an office in a building in the business district in Vancouver. Once more, we had asked a warlock to portal us here. He seemed pissed, but Doreen had a high rank with the demon hunters and he was supposed to collaborate with anything the demon hunters needed right now.

The building was a modern high-rise with glass sides, where many suited men and elegantly dressed women came to and from.

We parked our car in a parking area close by and watched from the bus stop on the other side of the street. I had a newspaper in my hands, Thierry and Doreen had earbuds, though nothing was playing, and Ariella messed with her phone. We looked like four random people waiting for the bus. Though, if we stayed here for more than a few minutes, then we could draw attention.

Ariella stiffed. “I smell demons.”

I sniffed the air and didn’t pick up anything but pollution, gas, and other city scents. “I don’t.”

She tapped her nose. “Special angel power.”

“Which ones?” I asked, eyeing the building’s main entrance.

“I can’t tell.”

“What if you got closer?”

“The scent would be stronger.”

I folded the newspaper and left it on the wooden bench. “Then let’s go.”

“Wait …”

I didn’t. I looked both ways and crossed the busy street in the coming traffic. Ariella rushed after me. I was dressed in jeans and a Henley shirt, and Ariella had the same pants from last night with a gray blouse. We weren’t dressed for this kind of place, but hopefully, we could sneak in anyway.
