“Yes, my lord,” Cain said.

“When we fought Paimon yesterday, I tricked him with my light magic,” Ariella said. “It weakened him, but that won’t last long. If we can find him today or tomorrow and fight him, we’ll have a better chance of defeating him.”

“The best demon hunters are out there tracking him,” Drake said. “Soon, we’ll hear news about his capture.”

I felt Raika stiffen in the chair beside me. I frowned.

“Shouldn’t we send another team to aid them?” Killian asked.

Drake seemed to consider that. “Prince Gray is already on site with the demon hunters. He’ll let us know if more help is needed. For now, everyone stay put and go on with your normal routine.”

With that, the meeting was over. Everyone got up. Some left the room right away, others mingled and talked.

Killian, Lavinia, and Ariella joined Raika and me.

“I’m leaving,” Ariella announced.

“Where are you going?” Lavinia asked.

“To join the demon hunters and go after Paimon.” She shrugged. “It’s not like I have anything else to do.”

A part of me wanted to join her. I still wanted to hurt Paimon for what he did to Raika and me, but with the full moon approaching, it would be easy for me to lose control. Besides, I had to take care of my pack. Now that Raika was here and Paimon would be dealt with soon, I had to think of what was next for my pack.

“Good luck,” I told her.

We accompanied her to the underground garage, where she borrowed a car, and we said goodbye to her.

“Sometimes I pity her,” Lavinia said. We stood at the garage’s entrance, watching as Ariella’s car turned into a small dot on the long road.

“Why?” Raika asked. “What happened to her?”

“From what I heard, she came from heaven on a mission with a small group of angels. They were ambushed by demons, most of the angels were killed, and Ariella lost her wings. She became a fallen angel, and she can’t go back to heaven until she recovers them.”

“Can she recover them?” Raika asked.

“I think so, if they weren’t destroyed,” Lavinia said. “She has been after the demons who attacked her for years now, but they either are good at hiding, or they are all dead. Either way, it seems it’ll be impossible for her to get her wings back.”

“What happens then?”

“She remains on earth as a fallen angel without her wings.”

“Which is why she helps everyone who needs a hand,” Killian said. “So she has something to do.”

“Lord Drake offered me a place here,” I said. “Maybe he can offer her one too? At least it’s something for her to do. To occupy her time and mind so she’s not obsessing about her wings.”

“I heard he already offered,” Killian told us. “She’s good friends with Farrah and Wyatt, and they offered her titles and positions within the fae court and more, but she has refused it all.”

“It seems she likes being a free spirit,” Raika said. “Owner of her own destiny.”

Lavinia nodded. “It sounds rather mysterious and powerful, doesn’t it?”

The car disappeared beyond the bend in the road.

“We should go back.” I squeezed Raika’s hand. “Will you come back later?” I asked Killian. “I want the council to meet. We should discuss the pack’s current situation and what to do next.”

Killian frowned. “You’re not thinking of leaving, are you? You know that village has been deserted for years. It’s all yours if you want to stay.”

“I know and I’ll bring it up again. I might be the alpha, but my pack’s opinion matters to me.” I wouldn’t repeat my father’s mistakes.
