I couldn’t say I was surprised when Dot raised her hands and released a wave of dark magic at me. I threw up a shield of darkfire in front of me. Her magic exploded against mine, shattering my shield.

“Raika!” Shane yelled from behind the bars.

She dashed to the door, but she hit an invisible wall and skidded back a step. “What the—?” She turned to me and sent a bolt of her magic at me. It sizzled out against the invisible wall.

I grinned. “Did you think it would be that easy?”

She shouted and punched the wall. “What is this?”

I tsked. “I thought you would at least pretend to try.”

“What?” she asked, confused.

The two sets of doors on this side of the bedroom opened and supernaturals spilled inside. The wall I had created faded away as Killian, Lavinia, Almae, Drake, Thea, Cain, Elisa, and Zad surrounded the witch. Thea waved her hand and the glamoured circle she had prepared earlier disappeared. Now the circle shone a bright blue.

Dot’s eyes widened. “Fucking little wolf. You have no honor. You said you wouldn’t tell anyone.”

“I told you I wouldn’t say anything to anyone.” I gestured to Lavinia. She held a piece of paper in her hand. “But I didn’t say anything about not writing it down. I kept my word.”

Behind the bars, Shane chuckled.

I glanced at him, proud of myself. I had expected Dot to try to run, but I had hoped she wouldn’t. Of course, I would still have delivered her to the others if she had done what she promised.

Now, we would have to come up with another way.

“You little bitch wolf,” Dot said through gritted teeth.

“Give up, Dot,” I said. “There’s nowhere for you to go. Just get this over with and undo Shane’s curse.”

“Never!” she screamed. The windows rattled and I clamped my ears.

“We can torture you all day long,” Drake threatened.

She turned mad eyes at him. “I’m not afraid of torture. You can play with me for a year, a decade, I’m not helping you or anyone. Shane will become the Shadow Wolf, and there’s nothing you can do.” She faced me again, her lips peeling in her signature crazed grin. “Your mate will be lost forever.”

Behind the bars, Shane let out a growl. Without control, every little bit of anger was enough to bring the Shadow Wolf to life. He shifted in two seconds and rammed the bars, his sharp teeth snapping as if he could bite Dot’s head off.

I winced, my heart breaking a little at the sight.

Lavinia waved her hand and brought a hazy wall over the circle, so we couldn’t see or hear Dot inside. And she couldn’t hear us.

“I think she’s telling the truth,” Lavinia said. “We can torture her however we want, she won’t undo the curse.”

“I’m afraid to say I agree,” Almae said. “Dot is determined to take this to the grave.”

My shoulders sagged. “Then what am I supposed to do?” I gestured toward Shane. He continued ramming against the bars and I wondered if the magic in them would just fade at some point. “I can’t leave him like this.”

Killian snarled. “Let me take a good bite at her and see if she won’t agree after that.”

Lavinia slapped his stomach. “We just established that—”

“Wait!” An idea popped in my mind. “The curse was done with blood magic, that’s why it has to be a Nightmist witch who has to break the curse, right, because it was a Nightmist who did it.”

“Right,” Thea said.

I looked at Lavinia. “Then … what if you bite Dot, take as much of her blood as you can, then perform the spell yourself?”

Her eyes rounded. Lavinia was not only a vampire, but also a powerful witch. “That … could work. Right?” She glanced at Almae and Thea.
