He moved, jerking as the rider brought his blade down and I lost it.

Fighting the dragon I could smell the sulfur again, the beast’s nose turning a bright orange. It hissed its smoke at me andI put my arm up defensively over my face.

The fire bent around me. A cooling feeling ran up and down the length of arm and the flames that should have marred my skin didn’t even touch me, no matter how much they tried to lick at it.

I frowned, brushing the dragon away who I noticed was injured. The fall had caused a branch to enter the dragons stomach. It didn’t have much longer to live.

With a few deep breaths, I managed to push the dying dragon off of me.

Noah was fighting with one arm, swatting at the rider and I realized his sword had been thrown away from him. I ran, as fast as I could, remembering what Lieutenant Thomas had said about the kind of kill shot to take.

I’d only have one chance at this and so as the attacker raised their weapon up I slid forward, slicing as deeply as I could across the stomach before turning my blade and plunging it into his gut.

He stumbled back, a scowl on his face.

“Long live the Seel-”

He collapsed onto the dirt.

“Noah,” I dropped my sword, clamoring toward him and knelt down.

“Why aren’t you healing?”

Noah grunted. “Iron. Healing isn’t working. Cora,” Noah coughed and blood splattered from his mouth.

“No,” I whispered, shocked.

Removing his armor and tunic I saw the wound right below his chest. The rider had clearly had the same idea I had.

Only it had worked out.

“No stay with me,” I told Noah who shifted and groaned. “What do you need? Can Aron heal you?” I asked.

Noah shook his head. “Too much energy. Cora, it’s going to be okay.”

“It is, it is going to be okay,” I repeated. “Drink from me.”

Noah shook his head. “I won’t. I’m not taking energy from you now.”

“Don’t be ridiculous. I said I’d keep you safe no matter what. Get the energy you need to heal yourself from me, Noah. That’s my purpose as a feeder.” I lay my head against his chest. “Please, I can’t let you die.”

Noah groaned again. “I don’t like this. That’s not your purpose.”

“Please,” I said, leaning forward so he could easily get to my neck. “I promised to keep you safe, too. Remember?”

Noah kissed my neck twice before he gave in and bit down.

The pain was immediate, but subsided as his mouth sucked at me. It wasn’t as sensual as the others said, but that was probably because their feedings weren’t taking place on the middle of a battlefield where their Fae counterpart lay dying.

Noah pulled back, inhaling and I waited.

Waited for whatever magic ability from feeding would do for him.

“Maybe you need more,” I said.

Noah frowned. “I shouldn’t.”

I leaned forward, tugging his shirt as he tried once more. This time he pulled back and stared at me.
