He almost spit out his drink. He needed to quit taking sips while talking to her. “You sound like a health teacher.”

She turned toward him. Her hands on her hips and brow furrowed.

Now would be a good time to change the subject. “Is your brother older or younger.”

She paused as if she had to think about it. “A few years older.”

He’d assumed older. “Your only sibling?”

“Yeah.”

Kolson nodded and cautiously took another drink. He watched the kitchen entrance, making sure that Mackenzie wasn’t coming after him. He felt bad for thinking that. They really needed to have the talk and he was afraid that Mackenzie wanted more than he. Still, he wanted to be here with Autumn. She was funny and serious at the same time. She had his attention with every word that came out of her mouth. He didn’t want to walk away to talk to Mackenzie. He may regret it later, Mackenzie and he were friends before they added benefits to their title. In hindsight, that’s how they should have stayed.
