“I don’t want to get your blanket dirty.” He wiped his hands on his blanket. “Do you like chocolate?”

“Who doesn’t?” She asked as if that was a trick question.

“My brother.”

“Your brother doesn’t like chocolate?”

He shook his head.

“I guess I can’t date him even if he does play the trombone.”

Kolson chuckled and leaned to her, nudging her shoulder with his. The small touch made her insides ignite. She was glad the barrier she’d accidently created hadn’t seemed to make a difference.

The movie began to play, pulling their attention to it. It still wasn’t dark enough to see. One of the tech guys stood in front of it, the lines and shadows from the movie danced across him. “Looks like we have the bugs worked out. We’ll start the movie as soon as the sun sets.”

“I wonder what the movie’s about.” Autumn normally wouldn’t have agreed to watch something she didn’t have details on, but she’d been so excited to do something outside of studying and running with Kolson she hadn’t thought about it. Autumn hated scary and gory things, so she hoped it wasn’t that.

“My roommate didn’t say much about it.”

Soon the movie began. Even with the loudspeakers, Autumn could still hear the slurping behind her.

“Did you get any more of your paper written?” She asked as the credits began.

“It’s not a school night,” he whispered.

“The paper isn’t going to write itself.” She smiled and looked at him, he was staring at the screen ahead.

He turned toward her, put his finger to his lips and pointed toward the screen. “It’s non-tutoring time, Hazel.”

Kolson then glanced behind them at the couple making out. “Maybe they should charge for that show.”

Autumn giggled louder than she’d intended.

Kolson lifted an eyebrow.

“Eat your Twizzlers and be quiet, I’m trying to watch the movie.” She smirked and turned toward the screen.

It was moments later when she felt his pinky skim across hers. Suddenly she couldn’t concentrate on the movie. Her heart raced as Kolson’s entire hand slid over hers. Goosebumps took over her skin despite how warm his hand was and how tingly it felt. What was she supposed to do now? Did he want to hold her hand? She wondered what Berkley would say. She wasn’t about to remove her hand from his to text her. Autumn didn’t mind doing everything one handed for the rest of her life if she could stay like this. Finally, she flipped her hand over and his rough palm slid against hers, he curled his fingers between her fingers. Her heart sped even faster. She wouldn’t have known if the movie was gory or scary because she could think of nothing but the boy beside her. She looked over at him, he must have felt her staring because he turned toward her, winked then faced the movie again.
