Falling For Autumn 15

Kolson

KolsonnoticedAutumnbegin to shiver. He pulled his hand from hers, even though he didn’t want to. Then covered her with the extra blanket. He scooted closer. His side pressed against hers. She smiled. He smiled back. Once she was tucked under the blanket, he put his arm around her and to his surprise and delight, she leaned against him. He could stay this way for the rest of the night. Sending glares behind him even though the couple making out and slurping didn’t notice or seem to care. Why didn’t they stay in their dorms if they were going to be suctioned to one another the entire time? Autumn quit shivering. Her hair smelled like lemons.

He didn’t move when the credits rolled. Neither did she. The guys from the film class thanked everyone. People clapped and gathered their things, but Autumn and Kolson stayed.

“I’m really comfortable,” Autumn said.

“Me too.”

A few more minutes went by when Autumn spoke again, “We should probably go.”

He looked at the thinning crowd and the film students dismantling their equipment. “I don’t want to.”

“We have to.” She moved. A chill ran over him with the absence of her body.

“Did you fall asleep?” He asked, when she yawned. He’d take that as a victory if she was comfortable enough with him to sleep.

“Almost.” She patted his chest. “It’s like a pillow.” There she was with the roasting again, but he didn’t care because she’d also been touching him.

“What do you mean, my chest is like a pillow?” He tapped himself on the pec. “These puppies are rock solid.”

She giggled. That giggle made it all worth it. “Puppies are soft and cuddly.”

“I work hard for these.” He put his hand flat over his heart.

“If you say.” She balled her blanket and put it under her arm.

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

She smirked at him and shrugged.

They gathered their things, threw away their trash, and began toward the dorms. Kolson noticed her shivering again.

“Do you want my hoodie?” he asked. It would give him an excuse to see her tomorrow.

She shook her head, then adjusted her blanket over her shoulders. He wished it was his arm instead. “Um … I need to tell you something.”

“Oh boy.” He ran his hand over the back of his neck. “Those are never good words.” He let out a breath. “You have a boyfriend?”

Another giggle for the win. She shook her head.

“You’re not into guys?”

She shook her head again.

“You’re not into … football players?” He lifted an eyebrow.

“I thought I already told you that, I like trombone players.” She smirked then took a deep breath. “I don’t live in the dorms.”

He scratched the back of his head. That wasn’t bad, why did she make it seem like she was going to tell him something horrible? “Why did you act like you did?”

“I’m a commuter,” she said.

“Why didn’t you just say that?”

She shrugged and looked toward the road. “I don’t share that with many people.”
