Power Play 2

Hunter

Ace and I held back to wait for Cashel. We heard the whole exchange about how Coach told him to find a girl, get his degree.

I also know how his brain works. He won’t settle down. He’ll just taper off his whorish ways for a while until he signs that contract.

I also know that he’ll find Oakley. She’s always been a good student—smart.

I’ve been friends with Cashel since elementary school. It’s always been the five of us: myself, Ace, Caleb, Cashel, and Lenox. And Oakley was a part of that. We never said anything, but she was just always there. Because she and Cashel grew up together and they were friends.

We, or at least I, have never told anyone that we liked her. Ace wanted to ask her to homecoming, but Cashel shut him down. His excuse was that he was going to ask her. He never did.

As a group, excluding Cashel, we loved that Oakley was different. She didn’t run in the cliques and was always true to herself.

And she was in love with Cashel. He was just too full of himself to notice. We did, though.

“Hey, you heard?” Cashel asks, coming out to the ice behind us.

“Yeah,” Ace nods.

“You going to find Oakley?”

“She’s the only one smart enough to help me with my grades,” he says with a shrug.

I fucking knew he would.

“She might not talk to you,” Ace points out.

Our freshman year, Cashel pledged a frat house. The frat had a pig party and he chose Oakley.

When he told us what he did, I wanted to punch the shit out of him. Lenox beat me to it. Cashel had two black eyes and a broken nose to show for it.

“I got a plan,” is all he says, skating off.

I don’t think I want to know his plan.
