“Ding, ding, ding,” Rommel says, cackling from his spot. “Don’t worry your empty little heads, though. We’re safe here. Jarvis wants you alive.”

“No!” Kinsey screams, thrashing in my arms, trying to throw herself toward her uncle again.

I grip her tighter. “We have to go, baby. I know you want to hurt him, but we have to go.”

“I can’t leave him alive. I can’t. I can’t,” Kinsey gives me no choice but to set her down. Arguing will just waste time.

Anita balls her hands, standing near Rommel. “She’s right. Alphas like him think they’re invincible. Isn’t that right?” Slamming her fist down, Anita punches Rommel in the cock, sending him howling and bucking. “You think you have more power than us. Look at you now.”

This might be the first time I’ve ever questioned my power coming from my order. The way Kinsey bounces, looking cold and fierce, unwavering as she prepares to disobey my pleas to let Wilder handle it gets to me in a surprisingly good way. This side of her proves that omegas don’t have to be docile and obedient. They can rise up and demand control and authority as much as anyone.

Rommel tries to break free, but the chains hold him tightly. “You fucking bitch! I’ll kill you! You’ll regret it when you’re caught, and I get to put you in your damn place.”

Anita grabs him by the top of his hair and slams his head back. “You’re all talk. You’re worthless. Come on, Kinsey, get your revenge. Get it for all of us who have ever been wronged by disgusting pricks who don’t deserve the order they manifested into.” Anita jerks Rommel’s face toward her. “Do you hear that? You’re unworthy of any omega. This is how you’ll end.”

Her words of encouragement trigger Kinsey to step closer, and her scent heats up, her body swelling with rage. Wilder holds his hand up, stopping me from trying to shadow her. He doesn’t hold out his knife, but he also doesn’t resist as she snatches it out of his hand and strides up to Rommel.

“You aren’t gonna fucking do it, Kinsey. You don’t have it in you. You’re weak. You’re as worthless as your bitch of a mother. These fuckers will see just how much you are when you cause their kingdom to fall. They’re going to get you, Kinsey. None of these bastards can conquer the true leaders of the region.” Rommel snaps his teeth, trying to bite Kinsey as she moves closer.

Kinsey stomps his balls, silencing his threat. “Fuck you! You’re the worthless piece of shit. You weren’t worthy of leading our pack. You weren’t worthy of even being a part of our family. Now you will die by my hands—my supposed weak hands.” Kinsey jerks her arm, stabbing Rommel in his gut, making him howl. “How does it feel? Is your regret as bitter as the rest of your life? I am better than you. More powerful than you. I might have been damaged and broken, but I forged my fucking self with fire and steel and determination to never be what you tried to beat me into. You are nothing. Absolutely nothing!”

I gawk at the ferocity of my beautiful woman, tearing into the man who hurt her. A part of me knows I should’ve done it for her. His blood should’ve never had the luxury of staining her divine hands. The other part of me? The dominant, vicious part plans to worship her like the deity she is to me. My faith and devotion lie in her and only her. She makes me stronger. Makes me fight harder.

“That’s enough. We have to go. We’re running out of time.” It takes Wilder snatching Kinsey to get her to stop stabbing her uncle long after he has already succumbed to the injuries she inflicted on him. “It’s over, Kinsey. He’s gone.” Wilder embraces her tightly, his strength stopping the trembles quaking through her body.

“Then why doesn’t it feel like it was enough? He deserved worse! He—” A wail cracks from her lips, shattering my soul. Her pain and anger resonate through me as if I share her body and mind.

“Shh, I know. I know. Nothing we could’ve done to him would’ve ever been enough.” Wilder strokes her back, motioning for me to join them.

“He’s right. Death doesn’t repair the damage caused by the living, baby,” I whisper, closing the space to smother her to Wilder, hoping our closeness helps ease her wild emotions even if just for a while. “But time can. Each day that passes will mend you more and more. We are here for you. We’re not going anywhere.”

“And our enemies? What are we going to do? I don’t feel so good.” Kinsey’s breathing turns ragged.

“She’s in pre-heat. You have to get her out of here. Take her somewhere safe.” Anita rubs her hands up and down her arms.

Fuck me. She’s right. We can’t deny it now. Pretending it isn’t going to happen does no one any good. We can’t fight like this. In other times I would stand beside our soldiers, but now I know I can’t. I have to entrust it to someone else.

“Take her to the tunnels and out to the garage. I’ll prep security and start the evacuation.” If Wilder wasn’t holding Kinsey, I’d take her myself. He’s not letting her go, though. I’m not sure his body will let him. I can smell his fucking rut from here, triggered by Kinsey. I better hustle my ass, or I’ll lose my shit. I need to be clearheaded.

“I’ll help. I can gather the omegas. Where do we go?” Anita clears her throat, her body stiff. She senses the rut too. Kinsey could lash out at her, so she’ll be as cautious as I am until we’re all safe.

“I’ll text Holly to meet you. She knows the way.” I nudge Wilder, pushing him to move. “If I’m not out in ten, leave without us. We’ll reconvene at the safe house.” I don’t say exactly where in case. I half expect Jarvis’s army to be waiting upstairs, knowing we know they’re going to try to fuck shit up.

“You better be out in nine, brother,” Wilder warns.

I unholster my weapon. “Just go.”

I wait until Wilder disappears, taking the secret passage to the garage. It’s the only safe place I know for certain in our palace. Only our immediate pack can open the doors. It’s why I need Holly to meet Anita. She can help with the omegas while I focus on everything else.

“Let me go first. I’ll make sure it’s all clear.” I pull out my cell phone and click on the security feeds first, seeing nothing out of the ordinary. But I don’t trust them. If they were able to get inside, they could’ve hacked our systems. We could never know.

Me: SOS. Bomb threat. Activate evacuation protocols now.

Arsehole: Fuck. On it.

Me: I need all security doing a sweep. Dad had an access tunnel from the fortress to here. We need to get out of here. Kinsey is in pre-heat.

Favorite Brother: I can stay and make sure everything is taken care of. I’ll catch up.
