“No.” She laughs. “Just defending my friends.”

“If you say so,” Ellie says.

“I do. So, when are you coming for a visit?”

“Maybe in the spring? I don’t need to be snowed in like Ashley was. Partially because I wouldn’t have a sexy man to keep me warm, and you three will all be with yours.”

“You could find one,” Ash says. “You and Tyler were looking pretty close at the wedding.”

“I’m with Kyle,” she says defensively.

“Just saying. Sorry. Is there something you need to tell us?”

“No, why? Look, I have to go. I’m having dinner with my family soon.”

“Okay, we’ll talk soon!” I say.

“Bye.”

“Bye,” the three of us say in unison.

Hanging up, we all look at each other.

“Well, that was weird, right? It wasn’t just me picking up on that?” Ally asks.

“No, yeah, it was weird at the end there after you mentioned Tyler.”

“I’m happy she met someone, though.”

“Me too.” Ally smiles. “But what if he’s the real deal? What if she stays there, and we’re here?”

“Al, it’s only been a few weeks with them.”

“It’s only been a few weeks with you and Alex,” she points out, pinning me with a stare.

Oh, true.

“Exactly,” she says smugly.

“Shut up,” I mumble, and they both laugh.

We spend the rest of the night acting like how we used to when we were all together, and it makes me even more glad that I moved here. I’ve missed them, and my life just isn’t whole without them around.

We just need Elizabeth to really be complete.

Alex has texted me a couple times tonight asking if he can come over after work, telling me he misses me and wants to do filthy, sweet things to me all night long.Thatgot my attention, and my whole body got hot just reading his messages.

But I sadly told him no. It’s a girl’s night.

Ally and Ash called their men, and they, too, put up a stink about not having their women tonight. But all is smoothed over by the promise of making it up to them tomorrow with some special sex.

Men are so easy in that capacity.

My throat hurts from laughing, and my cheeks hurt from smiling, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love these girls like sisters. We’ve been through everything together, and now that we’re getting older, I’m glad we can be here for each other still.

We may have also cut into that second pie Dottie brought after our third shared bottle of wine.

I guess I’ll have to find a different dessert to serve Alex when I see him again. Hmm, I can think of one thing…
