That’s me. The mom of the group. Well, at least that’s what they all think of me as. It’s only because I have a level head and I think before making decisions. Unlike them most of the time.

I actually kind of hate it when they call me that. It makes me feel old, and it makes me feel like I can’t ever do anything other than follow the rules or they’ll think I’ve lost my mind.

There are times when I just want to go a little crazy, let my hair down, and live life in the fast lane. All of those clichés.

Maybe this move will give me that.

I need a little chaos in my carefully crafted world.

“So, should we get drunk now?” I ask. I need more margaritas in me. All of this thinking is depressing me.

“Yes!”

And so we drink our weight in margaritas over the next few hours, moving from our table to the bar at some point.

“I love you, Elle-belle,” I slur, calling her by the nickname I rarely use anymore. “I wish you were moving with me. But you have a date to go on with your hot chef man,” I say, waggling my eyebrows.

“Mely!” she exclaims, taking a big gulp of her drink. “I’m going to miss you so much. But you’re right, I have a hot date in a few days, and it may actually go somewhere. There’s something about him,” she sighs, biting her lip, silent for a few seconds. “Nowyouneed to find a man. Maybe Pine Cove will work its magic on you like it did on Ally and Ashley.”

“That’s not why I’m going there.”

“It wasn’t why Ally went there either. But come on, I saw you dancing with Alex at the wedding.” She winks. “Maybe you should pay The Rusty Anchor a visit when you get there.”

“Yeah, I’ll be going there for a girl’s night of fun, but not for Alex.”

“It’s one and the same, Mel.”

“No, it’s not.”

“It is. He’ll be there, and you’ll inevitably get drunk, so you should flirt with him. Maybe even make out a little.”

“Ellie!” I scold, but then laugh. She has no idea how much I want to make out with him.

When I was dancing with him, his lips were right there, and I was tempted for just a little taste.

“What?” she says. “He’s gorgeous, you’re gorgeous, and I’m more than sure he’d be willing to take you for a ride on his motorcycle.” She winks, biting back a smile.

“Oh, lord,” I groan, rolling my eyes. “Seriously?”

“Come on, Mely! Live a little! Do something bad for once without worrying what’ll happen afterwards.”

“You know I never do that, El.”

She pins me with a stare. “That’s why I’m suggesting it. You’re allowed to step out of your comfort zone. That’s where life is lived, and where the best memories are made. You know I’m right.”

“Yeah, I know,” I admit.

“Good. Now that that’s settled, let’s get another margarita.”

“Yes, please.”

I don’t want to talk about Alex, or riding his motorcycle, or taking a walk outside of my comfort zone anymore.

Tonight, I just want to have fun with my best friend, and drink so many margaritas that I have no choice but to pass out later andnotsee those flashes of green I get every night when I close my eyes.
