Groaning, I huff out a lungful of air and cradle my face in my hands.

“What’s wrong, gorgeous? Headache coming on?”

“No, my friends abandoned me,” I sigh, looking up at Alex.

“What?” he asks, his eyebrows pulling together.

“They left me here.”

He scans the bar, and when they meet mine again, there’s something in them that I can’t read.

“I’ll take you home.”

“What?”

“I’ll take you home.”

“No.”

“No?” He smiles, crossing his arms. Oh, his arms. “How else will you get home? Walk?”

“You ride a motorcycle.”

“Yeah, and? You afraid, gorgeous?”

“Maybe. I’ve never been on one.”

“I wouldn’t let you fall. You’d be holding onto me pretty tightly, too.” He smirks, and I can’t help but smile in return.

“I would be?”

“We close in an hour. Can you wait?”

“If you find me some food, yes.”

“I’ll see what I can do.” He laughs, heading back into the kitchen.

Emerging a few minutes later, he puts a basket of tortilla chips and salsa down in front of me, and then refills my water glass from before.

“Is this okay?”

“Yes, thank you. Can I have a margarita to go with it?” I ask him, hopeful.

“No. Just water,” he says firmly, and I laugh at how cute he looks when he’s being serious. He really has a thing for not overdrinking.

Alex goes back to work, and women come and go – flirting, smiling, laughing, and pushing their boobs towards him to get his attention.

Great, now I have to sit here and wait for him to be done, and be forced to watch him smile and pour drinks while trying not to face plant into the bar.

I feel pathetic. I’m one of them.

He flirts with everyone, including me, and I fell for the charms he puts on for every woman, every night.

Me thinking I’m different in any way is just plain stupid.

Alex just sees me as another one of his conquests. I’m just a new little challenge to him.
