“Oomf,” I huff. “Sorry.”

“It’s okay.” He laughs. “Look.”

Stepping out from behind him, I gasp. Wow.

A small lake with dark blue water sits before me. Colorful trees line it’s banks, and if I take a step, I’d be standing on a small sand beach.

The water laps gently at the shore, and the afternoon sun glints off the rippled surface.

“Where are we?” I ask.

“A few towns north. I found this place one day when I was trying to clear my head after my mom died, and I come here to think sometimes.”

“Alex,” I whisper, squeezing his hand. “It’s beautiful.”

Looking up at him, I see the gold in his eyes shimmer in the sun. He took me somewhere that’s special to him, that’s personal, and the growing sensation in my chest has me feeling something a little more for him.

Walking us out onto the sand, we take a seat near the water, and Alex pulls me close, wrapping his arms around me.

It’s a warm afternoon today, and with so few clouds, the sun shining down on us heats me quickly.

“How often do you come here?”

“I don’t know. At least once a month? No one’s ever here, and I either sit and watch the water or lay back and watch the sky. I come here whenever I need to clear my head of the bullshit of everyday life.”

I feel like I’m getting a glimpse into the real Alex Bane, not the one everyone thinks he is. And I like what I see.

He found this place when he was hurting, and continues to come here when he needs clarity. If he was trying to show me that he thinks of me as different like he said he would last night, then he succeeded. I feel special.

“Thank you.”

“For what?”

“Showing me this. Taking me here.”

Alex places two fingers under my chin and turns my head towards him, his lips so close to mine. Tilting my chin up, I take one glimpse at his soft green eyes, and my eyes flutter closed, his mouth capturing mine in a soft kiss.

Cupping his face, I slide my fingers through his hair, and grip the back of his neck, holding him to me.

Sighing into him, Alex deepens the kiss, and the moment our tongues slide against the other, we moan together, and he lifts and spins me so I’m straddling his hips.

Wrapping his arms around me, he slides his hands down my back, and furthermore to cup my ass, pulling me flush against him.

Groaning, he rubs his hands down my thighs and back.

I feel like our hands are everywhere.

My palms slide against his scruffy beard and I moan at the feeling, loving the roughness before I slide my hands through his silken mass of dark hair.

Scratching at the nape of his neck, my hips grind into his, and he groans into my mouth – the buzz traveling all the way down to my core.

Rolling us over, my back sinks into the sand, and I lock my legs around him, his hips aligning just right so I feel him right there.

Right where I need him.

Breaking away, I gasp for air as he kisses his way across my jaw and down my neck – his beard scraping against my skin.

Arching into him, I want to feel it a little rougher, a little closer.
