“Alright, we’re all heading out for the day. You’ll be okay?” Courtney asks.

“Yeah. I’m going to try out a new cookie recipe while he’s working.”

“Perfect! Make sure he doesn’t eat them all, though. But let him take a few things when he’s done. That’s how I pay him.”

“Okay.” I laugh. “I’ll make sure it’s not the entire case, though.”

“Please do. See you tomorrow.” She waves and disappears, silence greeting me when I hear the bells jingle out front.

I gather the ingredients I’ll need for s’mores cookies and lay them out on the table, when I hear a knock at the door, my heart rate accelerating instantly.

“Hi,” I say, a little breathless, opening the door for him.

“Hey, sugar.” Tyler smiles, stepping inside.

I close and lock the door behind him, and when I turn back, he grabs my arm and pulls me towards him, crushing his lips to mine.

“I’ve been thinking about doing that all day.”

“Me too,” I breathe, swaying slightly when he releases me. Heading into the kitchen, I tell him, “I went to melt caramel and the stove wouldn’t light. I’m not sure what’s wrong.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll figure it out. I always do.” He smirks. “Caramel, you said?”

I roll my eyes, smiling. “Yes, it was for cupcakes. You don’t mind if I bake while you work, do you?”

“As long as I get some of what you’re making.”

“S’mores cookies sound good?”

“What?” His eyes widen. “That sounds fucking amazing, El.”

Laughing, I wash my hands and start cracking eggs. “Good.”

We work in a comfortable silence for a few minutes while I continuously steal glances over at him. He’s wearing a determined, focused look on his face as he takes apart the top of the burners to inspect them. I smile to myself. He’s so damn cute when he’s in work mode.

I fold the chocolate chips and graham cracker crumbs into my dough, and then start to form it into balls. My little secret trick is to take two mini marshmallows and then ball the dough around them so that when you bite into the cookie, the marshmallow oozes out like a real s’more.

Lost in my task, I jump at the sound of him pulling the stove out from the wall, startled by the heavy scraping.

“Sorry,” he says with a laugh. “I didn’t mean to scare you.”

“It’s fine. Do you know what’s wrong with it yet?”

“Yeah, the gas line connection is fine, so I think it’s just that some debris and crumbs have clogged the flow of gas to the burners.”

“You can fix it, though?”

“Of course, sugar,” he says with ease. “I’m offended you’d ask that.”

“Sorry.” I laugh, continuing to ball cookie dough around marshmallows.

He looks down at what I’m doing with eager eyes. “I can’t wait to try one.”

Shaking my head, I focus back on the task at hand while he starts to take apart the burners of the stove to clean them out.

When I place the trays of cookies in the oven, I sag against the table and watch Tyler as he works. There’s a way about him that draws me in with everything he does and holds my rapt attention. His easy-going smile and attitude are on pause when he’s working like this, and it’s just so sexy. I wish I could see him in his full firefighter’s gear.

Oh, sweet Lord, that image is too sexy for me to think about without needing him to put out the fire in my pants.
