What exactly?

I don’t know.

This is just a feeling that I have.

And it’s a new feeling.

* * *

RAVEN

I fallasleep against his chest, my head propped on his shoulder, his arms draped around me, his breaths rolling evenly as he drifts off to sleep too.

I must’ve not slept a lot when I open my eyes and realize he is still asleep, lying on his back while I’m next to him, my head pressed into a fluffed up pillow.

I push to my elbows and look around. The breeze sweeps the floors, and it’s a bit chilly.

I slide off the bed, tiptoe to the terrace doors, slide them close and turn around. On my way to the bathroom, I turn off most of the lights when my eyes fall on his phone.

He has this routine of turning it off whenever he is with me. I noticed it when I slept in his hotel room, and I thought it was happenstance, but he did the same thing tonight.

Maybe, he’s doing it out of habit, but that little thing has ignited my curiosity.

I freeze and stare at his cell phone before moving my eyes to the bed. Kai rolls onto his side, turning his back to me.

Shortly after, his paced breaths tell me he is sound asleep.

Without pondering much, I pick up his phone and head to the shower.

Quietly I close the door, put his phone on the vanity, power it on, wait for a few moments, and check the screen.

There’s nothing there.

No alerts. No text messages.

The screen is locked, and I suck at guessing passcodes, so I forget about it, step into the shower, and spend a few minutes under the stream.

Later, I walk out and dry myself off with a towel.

I remember about his phone when I notice it on the vanity.

What if he’s no longer asleep and he’s looking for his phone? I’ll need to come up with an explanation if he asks me about it.

I’m not too concerned, so I tap the screen and peer at the few notifications that fill the screen this time.

Initially, I look away.

It’s not my business.

As a principle, I don’t like to stick my nose into other people’s business.

I already feel bad about snatching it up and checking it just because I have a feeling something is going on and I need to know what it is.

I sort of scan the information briefly.

There is something about Francisco moving his stuff to Kai’s apartment. Okay. Then someone talking about an accounting firm in New Jersey.

There’s nothing interesting so far.
