“You sure he’s moved on?”

“He’s engaged to be married.”

“Engagements can be broken off. Marriages can be dissolved. I ask again, are you sure he’s moved on?”

“You sound like my brother. If a man is ready to marry another woman, said man can’t still be in love with me.”

“Or he is and feels like he can’t ever have you anyway, so move on to the next best thing.”

I shuddered. “Again, I hope my future husband won’t ever think that way about me.”

“Shit, people do it all the time. Marry for every reason but the right one.”

“What is therightreason, oh cynical one?” I bumped his shoulder with mine playfully.

“Love. The type of love my parents have. The type of love that’s so tangible that anyone can see or touch it. The kind that is the death do you part.”

Wistfully, I commented, “My parents had that too.”

“Then you believe like I do that marriage makes no sense unless you have that type of love.”

“I do. Do you want to be married or not? You said marriage is not in the cards for you.”

Bakari shrugged. “Who knows what the future holds.”

I peered at him. “You’re confusing me and definitely more complex than I thought.”

He frowned. “Should I be insulted?”

“Yes.” I giggled. “You should see your face. We said honesty, right?”

“We did. Hoping I don’t regret it.” He moved his long leg over my head to straddle the lounger. “What do you think of me?”

“I think you’re hot as fuck, fine as sin, and sexy as hell.”

“All that?” Bakari grinned. “If that’s all you see, then all you really want from me is my body.”

“Yep.” I scooted onto his lap, my pelvis flush against his dick, wrapped my arms around his neck, and my legs encircled his waist. “Because of your looks, I didn’t think you could ever be an engineer or a participant in this conference. I also thought you didn’t believe in commitment, that you were a player.”

“So you thought I was a sexy, dumb fuck boy?” He hugged me to him.

“You said it. Not me.” I rubbed the back of his trimmed soft natural waves. “I also think you have smarts, good conversation, and you know how to treat a woman in and out of the bedroom. More importantly, you have empathy. Not many men would hold a stranger’s hand while they cried their eyes out.”

He ducked his head slightly. “Blame it on my mother. For a long time, she was my best friend.”

“Another thing we have in common. Mine was my best friend too.” I continued to rub his nape. “Why isn’t she still your best friend?”

“Once I went off to college, we grew apart. I’ve traveled so much with my job that I might see my parents twice a year. One of the reasons I’m considering moving back to DC for a job in the fall. Then I’ll see them more.” He tapped my ass. “Enough about me. Surprised you didn’t ask what I see in you.”

“You think I got good conversation with my bomb ass snatch.” I undulated my hips playfully, getting the reaction I desired when his erection suddenly pressed against my center.

Bakari’s head fell back as he roared with laughter.

“You weren’t supposed to laugh.” I popped his chest, and he tightened his arms around me.

“You just surprised me with the accuracy of your words.” Bakari pushed me back against the lounger until he hovered over me. “It was your voice. Deep, clear, sharp, and sexy. Your voice caught my attention and made me curious about the woman attached to it. Then I noticed your beauty and hotness.” He brushed his lips over mine. “Nikki, are we doing this? Because I really could use somebomb ass snatchfrom a beautiful woman with good conversation over the next few days.”

I pulled him down and kissed him hungrily, answering his question with my tongue.
