“Why would they? Angelics are meant to be the good guys, they leave us demonics alone because we do their dirty work for them,” Hadley spat.

“We need to get some, just in case this happens again,” Dylan said as he looked to me. “If they’re after you, we need to prepare ourselves.”

A surge of guilt washed over me at this, and I looked down at my hands.

“Hey, it’s not your fault. We don’t blame you for any of this,” Hadley said quickly as she shot Dylan a sour look.

“Right. Besides, we don’t get to pick and choose our family or our powers,” Dylan said with a swift nod as he offered me a genuine, apologetic smile.

It was true though. All of this was because of me really. If I hadn’t come here, none of this would have happened.

“Don’t take the blame on yourself, Lily,” Thomas said firmly as he looked at me with a steely gaze.

“This is where you belong and where you would have wound up eventually. It couldn’t be avoided,” Diane added. “You’re a demonic.”

“Still, this only happened because I’m here,” I muttered.

“Doesn’t matter. It’s done now, and we’ll just have to be ready for anything else that comes our way,” Hadley said with a firm bob of her head. “We’re family here.”

Everyone agreed, and I managed a small smile.

Family.

I liked that.
