Isat down at the table in the dining hall, chewing my lip as I watched the lone keeper hurry around while Chumley helped it set out food for everyone.

“Where are all the keepers?” Hershel asked out loud as he played with his fork.

Neither of the teachers had joined us, and the air was thick with uneasiness as we all looked at one another uncertainly.

“No one knows,” Hadley answered after a moment of silence. “The angels must’ve pulled their magic. To be honest, Diane and I have noticed that the warding on the whole school has weakened. It could be a few things really. The angels pulling their magic, or powerful witches casting spells to nullify angel magic in the area. Although I can’t sense any witch magic, so I don’t believe that’s it,” Hadley said as she cast her sister an uneasy look. Diane was chewing her lip nervously at this development, and I swallowed down my own worry.

“So, then that leaves only the angels pulling their magic. Why would they do that after what just happened?” Thomas snapped as he gritted his teeth and glared at his food.

This was certainly something we needed to be worried about.

“Who knows, perhaps there’s something going on with the High Council and they need all their strength?” Dylan suggested, although his tone wavered.

It was plausible, but I had a niggling feeling it was something far more sinister than that.

"That seems really weird, I don't like this at all," Xander growled as he sat back in his seat, looking to the door as if he expected one of the teachers to waltz on through and tell us what was going on.

I really hoped for the same thing.

"What could possibly be going on with the High Council?" Hadley asked as she glanced around us.

"Dezikiel thought there was corruption within them, so maybe there's something going on and they need all their power for it," Diane suggested.

"Maybe, but even that's very concerning to think about," Thomas said.

I flinched as Hadley hissed, lurching to her feet and planting her hands on the table. Diane shot to her feet as well, gasping as her eyes widened and she turned to the window.

"Something has just entered the grounds, something dark, demonic," Hadley barked as her mouth pulled back into a scowl.

"It doesn't feel good," Diane murmured as she shuddered. “There’s more than one. Powerful creatures.”

"Everyone head to the Armory, we need weapons," Thomas commanded as he leaped to his feet instantly.

“What about the teachers?” Dylan said as we all jumped into action.

“No time!” Diane gasped.

We all scattered, taking off for the Armory as we left our food behind, launching into combat mode like we’d been trained to do.

My heart hammered as both Chum and Bug popped up on either side of me as we rushed down the hallway.

What was here? What was after us? And where were the teachers?

“Grab whatever you can, and quickly! They’re filling the grounds fast!” Hadley ordered as she and Thomas took the lead.

I gritted my teeth as I ran with my hellhounds, all the other students dashing with us.

We reached the Armory in record time, and everyone was quick to take up arms. I eyed the weapons, wondering what would be my best bet right now, hating that the guns were locked up.

Honestly, it would probably be my hellfire rather than a crossbow or knives.

"Lily, you should stay inside. We don't know who or what it is, and considering a Prince of Hell is after you, we need to keep you safe," Bug said as he turned to me, those eyes blazing with hellfire.

"I can't just sit this out, not when everyone else is rushing out there. It's my fault they’re here," I stated, my hands shaking with frustration as I clenched my teeth.

"We don't even know what's going on out there," Chum said, flicking his gaze to Hadley as she pulled on a protective vest.
