I didn’t want to endanger anyone.

“We definitely won’t be doing that,” Miss Sage said firmly as she crossed her arms.

“It is our duty to take care of our students, not hand them over just because it gets tough,” Mr. Baron added. “When we took on these positions, we knew it wasn’t going to be easy. We’re dealing with demonics here, with powers that can be incredibly insane. Lily, do not blame yourself for any of this. You did not get to choose who your father was, nor did you get a say in how the council would view you. You are as much a victim as the rest of us, and we will stand by you,” Mr. Baron said as he gave me a soft smile.

My chest tightened at this, and I smiled as Jack squeezed his arm around my waist, giving me a sweet, comforting smile.

I’d always have my hellhounds no matter what too.

“And it’s the most action we’ve had in ages anyway,” Matthew smirked as he gave Dylan a soft elbow. “We get to properly test out our skills, and now with the angelic weapons, we can now defend ourselves better.”

“I don’t want to freak anyone out, but there’s more on the way. They’re coming through the national park,” Hershel said, his voice hitching as those black voids in place of his eyes widened.

“How many? Have you got a visual?” Miss Sage asked quickly as she scowled once more.

“Way more than I can count, Miss,” Hershel said after a moment of hesitation, his face downtrodden with defeat and his voice broken.

“We have to evacuate immediately. Everyone head to the garage outside, we can make our way to a safe house which is still warded by a different magic. We’ll be safer there, and no one knows the location of it. Diane, Hadley, are you strong enough to ward everyone here from any tracking spells?” Miss Sage barked as she led the way out of the dining hall.

“Yes, we’re definitely strong enough to be able to ward everyone, although that’s not going to help right now,” Hadley stated as she pulled out in front of us all. “They’re already on the Academy grounds.”

“Have we got a clear path to the garage?” Miss Sage asked quickly.

“Not for much longer, we won’t make it there in time,” Diane added as she gritted her teeth.

“Head to the Armory so I can unlock the gun cage,” Mr. Baron growled. “Wayne, Paris, have you got all the weapons and ammo?”

“We left the ammo in the trunk of the car and only bought the daggers with us,” Wayne said as we all rushed down the hallway once more.

Jack was holding my hand, dragging me along with him as I clenched my jaw. We had only just managed to fend off one wave, how were we supposed to fend off a second so soon?

“Don’t worry, I’m on it,” Paris said as she slipped into the shadow behind her and vanished.

I frowned as I watched her go, wondering just how her magic worked. Did she need to see where she wanted to reappear? There were so many things I still didn’t know.

We all burst into the Armory, and Mr. Baron was quick to open up the gun cage for us all.

All the guys were quick to take up various pistols, but Wayne quickly redirected them to ones that would suit the ammo that he’d picked up.

Paris reappeared from a shadow on the wall, rolling out and offering us the boxes of ammo.

“Can you take others through the shadows too?” I asked. Surely, they’d parked whatever car they’d taken in the garage, and Paris had to use her demonic ability to jump in there.

“No, only the ability user can pass through the shadows,” Mr. Baron informed me before either of the twins could answer. “If Paris or Wayne try to take anyone else through the shadows with them, they’d get lost within the darkness. There was a student years ago who did just that, and that student was lost forever. The student with the ability never forgave themselves, and ended up taking his own life. Those who get taken into the shadows cease to exist, although many believe it is a quick and pain free death,” Mr. Baron said as he collected up some ammo for himself from the box on the counter.

“We’ve even dragged demonic monsters into the shadows to get rid of them when we struggled,” Wayne said as he reloaded his pistol.

Well, it had been worth asking.

I turned to the counter and picked up one of the daggers there. I was glad Paris had gathered them all up on her way back inside.

Now that I was feeling more depleted than anything, I was worried about if I would even be able to use my hellfire.

I would just have to draw forth that power within me that made me master weapons and hope that it was enough.

Xander had already gathered up all the arrows, while all the guys had added the angelic bolts to their crossbows.

“I know we’re all tired and drained, but we just need to make our way to the garage. Diane and Hadley, can you help us make a path? We need to get out of here and get somewhere safe,” Miss Sage said as she picked up the lone sword that sat on the counter now.
