“Should we wait for Miss Sage?” Jack glanced in the direction of the office.

“No, she’ll tell us not to. But I want to know too,” Diane said quickly. “I’ll need your hands,” she added as she pulled out her phone. “I’ll use this to link to Dylan since he touched it and used his power on it.”

Xander didn’t even hesitate to hold his hands out, and she took them gently, pressing the phone into one as her own hands glowed green and she started to murmur a few words.

“Do you think she needs any objects or stuff apart from the phone?” Chum whispered to me as he moved closer.

“Guess not,” I said as I watched Diane’s eyes begin to glow along with Xander’s. His jaw set, and I could see the lines of fatigue on his face after just a few moments of Diane chanting. She really was draining him by siphoning his demon power.

“I can see them, they’re fine, they’re at a safe house with Mr. Baron. But Dezikiel and Jophiel aren’t there,” Diane shared with us as the glowing died down and she released Xander.

“Great.” I let out a relieved breath at the news. Too bad we didn’t know about Jophiel and Dezikiel, but surely they’d be okay. I’d sensed them both when I’d rid the grounds of angels, which meant they were alive then.

“Thanks,” Diane smiled softly at Xander as he steadied himself.

“Any time,” he said with a sweet smile, and Diane turned away, but not before I saw the slight blush in her cheeks.

We fell silent as Miss Sage returned, but Hadley shot Diane a look instantly.

“What’d you do?” she said accusingly, and Miss Sage glanced between us all questioningly.

“Nothing bad. Just did a simple spell to check in on Dylan and the others,” Diane said sheepishly, and Hadley groaned.

“You need to conserve your power,” Miss Sage reprimanded her and shook her head. “That was a silly thing to do.”

“We wanted to know if they were okay,” Chum spoke up in her defense.

“They would’ve found a way to reach out, trust me. We have things in place for times like this,” Miss Sage said with a sigh, but then she smiled softly. “They were fine?”

“Yes, at a safe house I believe. I didn’t see Jophiel and Dezikiel though,” Diane mumbled as she looked down at her hands.

“Good, and I’m sure they’re fine, they can fend for themselves,” Miss Sage said as she held out some room keys.

“Lily, you have a room with your hellhounds. Hadley, Diane, and Xander, you’ve got one, and I’ll be sharing with Wayne and Paris,” she stated as she passed out two keys. “Go get some rest, I’ll bring you some clothing once Paris and Wayne return,” she instructed as she leaned against the car and folded her arms.

“Do you want Xander’s jacket?” Diane offered, but Miss Sage shook her head.

“They won’t be long. I’m sure you’d all like a proper sleep in a bed rather than struggling in the car,” she stated.

“Yeah, definitely,” Hadley muttered as she stifled a yawn.

Jack took the lead as I headed off, and Diane and Hadley veered off with Xander to go to their room as we went to the second level for ours.

“I hope Dezikiel and Jophiel are okay,” I murmured as Jack unlocked our door and let us in.

The room contained two queen-size beds, and I imagined it would be the same in the other two rooms.

“They’ll be fine, they’re angels themselves,” Bug assured me as he moved over to the bed.

Creeper instantly took up his position by the window, leaning against the wall as he peered through the blinds.

“I hope so,” I said as I plopped onto the bed and stretched my back.

I sighed as Jack sat down behind me and massaged my shoulders gently as Bug sifted through the drawers.

“Bibles, why can’t they ever have something decent,” he grumbled as he shut the drawer.

“Could see what’s on the TV?” Chum suggested as he made himself comfortable on the other bed.
