1 Year Later

Pippa walked towards the entrance of Hope Facility as a gust of crisp fall air blew over them, ruffling her gown. “Do you think your dad and Sebastian can handle the twins on their own? Did you pack the extra milk?”

“Yes, and yes.” Mason pressed his hand to her lower back as he opened the door for Aspen, Lady, and her.

Pippa lifted the gorgeous gown as she stepped into the building. She watched where she stepped on the blue rug in the small vestibule leading to the second set of doors that would take them into the main room of the facility.

“Come on, Pippa, we’re gonna be late.” Aspen hurried them along. Her own dress glittered under the lights.

“Is your phone ringer turned up in case they need us?” Pippa asked.

Mason pulled her hand away from the second set of doors leading into the main room as Aspen slipped through them, leaving Pippa and him alone.

He held her face in his hands, bringing an instant hit of calm to her. “Babe, the twins are going to be fine. It’s just for a few hours. My phone is as loud as it goes, and so is yours. Let’s go and enjoy this party as our first date night out since Camila and Andrew were born.”

She sighed, her eyes tracing down the fitted black suit he wore with the white dress shirt underneath, the first two buttons undone. God, he was sexy. “I know you’re right. Does it get any easier? Leaving them behind?”

He chuckled. “Yes and no.”

Pippa rolled her eyes. “Well, that’s comforting.”

“They’re six months old, not newborns. My dad and Uncle Seb got this. Can you try and enjoy tonight? You look fucking edible in that dress.” His finger traced the sweetheart neckline of her sparkly sunshine-yellow strapless gown. “God, your tits look amazing in this.”

She giggled. “The benefits of breastfeeding.”

“One of them.” He gave her a salacious wink.

She playfully smacked his shoulder. “Alright, Mr. Wright, let’s go to this fundraiser.”

He smiled and pressed his hand to the small of her back again, leading her into the giant room.

Gold, white, and black balloons floated above them. Bachata music thrummed from the speakers as a DJ’s voice split through the crowd that had all turned towards the entrance.

“Ladies and gentlemen, these, theys, and gays, I present to you the star of the ball, our princesa quinceañera, Miss Pippa Davis.”

The audience clapped.

Pippa turned to Mason. “What’s going on?”

Aspen appeared at her side, handing over the crown she’d given her for the midsummer’s dance over a year ago. “It’s a do-over.”

“What?”

Mason plucked the crown from his daughter’s hands and slipped it onto Pippa’s head. “Your sister told me that your own celebration wasn’t possible when you were fifteen because of your health problems at the time. So, I talked to Aaron, and he loved the idea of putting on a quinceañera for all the girls at the center and turning it into a fundraiser, with you getting to participate.”

Her gaze darted to the crowd, who had begun dancing to the music, while others disappeared to round tables covered in white linen with red rose centerpieces. They’d transformed the space into a decadent ballroom.

A pair of pale blue eyes locked with hers across the space. “Papi?”

Her father walked forward, opening his arms to her. “It wouldn’t be a proper quinceañera without a father-daughter dance, would it?”

Pippa wrapped her arms around her father’s neck and breathed him in. Thankfully, she had seen quite a bit of her father in between his work trips. Mason had called him every week while she recovered at his house, which was now their home. Her father had even come for an extended stay that Thanksgiving.

Pippa glanced at Mason as her father led her to the dance floor and mouthed, “Thank you.” Mason just smiled and winked before he took Aspen’s hand and joined them.

“Surprise,” Sophia said, bumping into Pippa playfully before she spun her wife, Vivian, around.

“I can’t believe you knew about this and didn’t tell me.” Pippa beamed at her father as Lady moved closer to her.
