Chapter Twenty-Six

Rhenn

The sail back home is anything but smooth. The seas are choppy and that once bright sunshine is now replaced with the gloom of an incoming storm. I guess it matches my mood, though. Throw in the fact I haven’t slept, and I know this ride is going to be a miserable one.

But that’s what I get.

What I deserve.

At the end of the day, I lied.

I promised I wouldn’t fall in love with her and I did. Jokes on me, right? The man incapable of love falls head over heels for the shy bed and breakfast owner’s daughter who lives three hours away.

And who doesn’t want him in return.

It’s for the best. She deserves to be loved wholly, and I’m not capable of that. She deserves everything. So while she moves on with her life, occasionally thinking about the amazing two weeks we shared, I’ll be at home, miserable and wishing I were with her, and praying that emptiness doesn’t last for the rest of my life.

But I know it will.

Because she’s gone.
