This time it was my turn to run a hand through my hair. Sasha told me that I needed to examine this further, but I hadn’t listened to her. I’d made promises that I now wasn’t sure that I could keep.

The purpose of our marriage was to stop the bloodshed, but it seemed there could be a new player in town who wasn’t content to allow us some peace.

“You need to keep an eye on Sasha.” My brother’s tone had changed from concerned to forceful.

I released a heavy sigh. “You don’t still think that she knows something, do you?” I wasn’t sure how I felt about Sasha. I knew that she wasn’t trying to kill me. But I also knew that she wasn’t as disengaged from her family as she wanted me to believe.

“I think that if there is a new player in town, Sasha might be one of their targets.”

“Fuck,” I muttered.

“Think about it,” Marco said, leaning forward, “if they are targeting you and the Bratva, what better way to harm you both than to hurt her.”

I felt a deep sense of panic well inside of my gut. Marco was right. Sasha would be the perfect way to hurt both of us, and it wouldn’t be too hard. I reached for the cellphone on my desk.

“She’s not going to stop going to school,” Marco said. “She’s fucking determined to attend every single class, trust me.”

Marco was right. I could forbid her to go, but I would have to have someone drag her back into the house every single day. She’d been adamant that she was willing to do almost anything to make sure that she was able to attend school.

I couldn’t take that away from her.

“Set a meeting with the Bratva,” I told Marco, as I called Sasha.

Marco raised a brow. “Seriously?”

I nodded. “If there is a new player in town, we need to pull our resources to figure out who the fuck wants us both dead.”

“I don’t think I need to tell you that there’s absolutely no way that you should trust Isaac Petrov,” Marco said.

I snorted. “I’m more than aware of who I’m dealing with. But better the enemy you know..”

Marco appeared skeptical. I understood it. Isaac had brokered a deal for the marriage of his only daughter, and he’d screwed me over in the process. I didn’t trust the man as far as I could throw him, but none of that mattered now.

Someone wanted the city for themselves, and they were going to have to kill me to get it.
