“I’m not sure.” I stepped out of the dress, which was no easy feat.

“What does your fiancé like?”

It was a good question, and one that a normal person could probably answer. But I had no idea what Marco liked. We’d had explosive sex, and I knew that he liked that, but I didn’t know what he would want in a wedding dress.

“Do you have something simple?” I asked.

The woman looked at me like I had two heads. I didn’t think it was such an odd question, but apparently, it was. “It can have some lace or sparkle, but I’m more of a simple type of woman.”

I could see the woman thinking hard. Finally, she snapped her fingers. “I have the perfect dress,” she said. “I’ll be right back.”

I nodded. Truthfully, I couldn’t imagine that there was any dress out there that was perfect for me. I’d never been the girl who’d thought much about her wedding. When I did consider it, my mind was completely blank. It was probably better that way. It meant that whatever happened next wouldn't disappoint me.

“Here we are,” the saleswoman said. She held up a long plain white dress. The material was a slinky crepe style, and the front was low cut, but not in a sultry way. The saleswoman turned the dress slightly to show me the back. It was bejeweled until mid-back, which added something a little extra to it.

“Wow,” I breathed out. I reached a hand to the dress. “It’s beautiful.”

The saleswoman smiled. “Would you like to try it on?” she asked.

I nodded. I couldn’t speak. She took the dress off the hanger and situated it so that I could get inside. The feeling of the fabric against my skin was smooth, and as the saleswoman pulled it up, I could feel it molding to the very few curves I had.

“It’s already a perfect fit,” she said, as she began fastening the buttons in the back.

As I looked at myself in the mirror, I’d never felt more beautiful. This dress was absolutely perfect. It was simple, but the back made it something special. The material was bridal and traditional, but it wasn’t heavy and old. It was literally the perfect dress.

“Do you want to show your friends?” she asked.

I nodded. I didn’t think that I could speak.

Walking out, I kept my eyes straight ahead. I didn’t know what I would do or say if Nikki or Sasha didn’t like the dress. Nikki because she was my oldest friend, and Sasha because she would know if Marco would like this dress or not.

“Wow.” Sasha was the first one to speak when she saw me. Her crystal blue eyes were wide as she looked me up and down.

“Is that a good wow, or a bad wow?” I asked. I ran a nervous hand down the front of my dress. I was pretty sure that if this dress wasn’t the one than the one didn’t exist.

“An incredible wow,” Nikki said. “That dress is incredible.”

I shifted my weight from foot to foot nervously. “Are you sure?” I hadn’t looked at the price tag, but I knew that it was expensive. Everything in this story was more money than I’d ever seen in my life.

“Marco will love it.” I hated how much Sasha’s words affected me. I hated that despite the fact that Marco had turned my world completely upside down, some part of me still wanted to please him.

I wasn’t sure what that said about me, but I was sure it wasn’t good.

“Well,” I announced. “I suppose that’s final then. This is my wedding dress!”

The girls squealed and we made a big deal of it all, but deep down I felt sick inside. This may be the perfect dress, but I knew he wasn’t the perfect man, unless you counted perfectly deadly as an attribute.
