Chapter Thirty

After a month of marriage, Ivy and I had fallen into a sort of routine. It was odd to live with someone else, but it was also nice to have company.

“Where do you want to go to dinner tonight?” I asked, sliding up behind Ivy, and pressing a kiss to her neck. She was standing in the kitchen making lunch. I’d taken the morning off, something that Dom was surely going to give me shit about, so that I could enjoy a few morning delights.

Now, she was making us lunch.

Ivy shrugged. “I don’t know.” She turned her head slightly, so I leaned forward and captured her lips. I pressed her into the edge of the counter and slid my hands up her naked thighs. She was wearing one of my shirts, which was massive on her small frame.

Seeing her in my clothes made me rock hard.

“Aren’t you supposed to be meeting Dom and Alex?” She giggled as I chased after her lips. “Dom’s going to be pissed if you cancel.”

I couldn’t stop myself from rolling my eyes. Alex and I had barely spoken since the wedding. He’d had a stick up his ass since then, and I wasn’t going to be the one to remove it.

Today’s meeting was likely Dom’s attempt to build a bridge between us. With his kid ready to be born in a few months, Dom was extra paranoid.

“He’s a pain,” I said, aloud, rolling my eyes.

Since the wedding, things had been quiet. The police had a body, but they had no evidence tying me to it. Ivy was the only witness, and our marriage made it impossible for her to testify against me.

Plus, the story that she wove about us having a tryst in the alleyway offered an explanation for why I was on camera.

“You won’t hear me arguing with you on that.” I snorted. Ivy and Dom hadn’t built their own bridge. She thought he was high handed, and he thought she was a liability. The only thing they had in common was that they both loved Sasha.

“What are your plans for today?” I asked. I was still stroking the skin of her thigh, and I knew that the action was causing her to squirm with desire. Ivy was crazy responsive, which was why I had been taking mornings off. I’d never had so much sex in my life.

Ivy sighed. Her mood instantly changed, and I immediately knew that she was going to see Mikey.

“How’s his treatment going?” I had seen Mikey twice since we married. He’d stayed with us when he needed to go in for treatment since my apartment was closer to the hospital. I liked having him here. It made Ivy calmer. But it also showed me how much my wife had been dealing with over the last few years.

I’d seen men blown up and mowed down by gunfire, but watching a thirteen year old boy puke his guts out was rough.

“It’s too early to see if the treatment was working. But I’m hopeful. His doctors are amazing.”

I smiled. Ivy and her mother weren’t speaking, but Ivy knew everything about Mikey’s treatment.

“I bought him a few of the books he’d mentioned last time I saw him,” I pulled away from her. I knew that if I didn’t, I was going to bend her over the kitchen counter and screw the life out of her. And she was right, Dom would cut my dick off if I didn’t show up to the meeting.

“You didn’t have to do that,” Ivy said. It had been a month, but Ivy still got odd about Mikey and I being close to one another.

“He reads quicker than any kid I’ve ever met,” I exclaimed.

This got a chuckle out of Ivy, and the tension that had been in her shoulders released. “I know. I wish that I’d read as much as he had when I was his age. I hated reading.”

I found that surprising. Ivy hadn’t had the opportunity to go to college, but I noticed that she had a wide breadth of knowledge. “What did you like in school? Art?”

Ivy shook her head. “I couldn’t afford the things we needed to take an art class.”

I tried not to frown at those words. Ivy never complained about how she grew up, but there were many opportunities she missed out on because she lacked the money. I promised myself silently that she’d never want for anything again.

“I actually loved science.”

My brow rose. “Really? I can’t picture you enjoying a science class.”

She clasped her hands together and looked at me with a raised brow. “Why?” she asked. “Is it because I’m a woman?”

I snorted. I knew the strength of women better than anyone. Unlike my brother who treated his wife like a porcelain doll, I knew that women were stronger than men by leaps and bounds.
