“Ivy!” Alex called out once more. I could hear him following behind me, and I picked up the pace, turning down an alleyway.

“Ompf,” I breathed out, as I slammed into a thick chest. “Sorry,” I said, wrapping my hand around my bag. I didn’t look up. I wanted to get away from Alex. I needed a moment to breathe without someone from the Blanchi family in my face.

“Ivy?” a deep voice called out. It was raspy, as if the speaker had been a constant smoker. Even though I hadn’t heard that voice in so long, I knew that voice.

I looked up, my mouth opening wide. “Dad?”

It was the last thing I said before everything went black.
