“No,” I told him. It was one of the first times I had ever said no to my brother.

Dom looked taken aback. I knew that he hadn’t expected my answer, but it was the only one I could give. I knew what the O’Connors did to their enemies, and they didn’t care that Ivy was innocent, and her being pregnant would only make it more appealing to bring her pain.

“She’s my wife.” It was the only explanation I had for Dom. Ivy had burrowed her way under my skin, and I wasn’t sure I could ever dig her out, and I was even less certain that I wanted to.

“I’m with you,” Alex said. “Whatever you need.”

His words took me aback. They reminded me of the cousin who’d been my closest companion for so many years.

I looked over at Dom. “You don’t need to be involved in this,” I reminded him. “They technically haven’t made a move on the family and…” I trailed off. We might be the mafia, but there were rules to be followed. Breaking them could put Dom and his own family in a precarious position.

He shook his head. “Ivy and your child are family,” he said. “And the O’Connors can go fuck themselves.”

I couldn’t help the smile that spread across my face. The O’Connors were about to discover why they never should have come at us in the first place.
