“He’s persistent for sure,” I laughed.
“Is it serious?”
“I’m in love with him,” beaming from ear to ear.
Scarlet smiled a huge smile, “I’m so happy for you.”
“I complicate things so we’ll see.”
“I know. Trust me, Jamie loves you. He’ll hold your hand through it. You have changed so much since you met him.”
“He still scares me. I don’t know how to do this. I’m trying but I’m always afraid I’ll screw it up.”
“You will both screw up, you’ll forgive each other, make up. No relationship is perfect, Stella.”
“Are you okay, Scarlet? You’ve been through it with that abusive ex of yours?”
“Alexander makes me forget,” she smiles.
“Jamie does the same for me.”
“He makes everything better,” I say.
“Is the sex incredible?”
“Oh my God. Unlike anything I’ve ever known.”
“I wasn’t exactly a virgin when we met, but he’s got skills.”
“Must be a Martin thing,” Scarlet giggles.
We laugh and carry on like a couple of schoolgirls. It annoyed me that Jamie thought I needed a babysitter. It was wonderful to catch up with one of my closest friends though.
“I missed you.”
“I missed you too, Stella. We need to do this more often. You know when you marry Jamie we’ll be sisters.”
I laugh uncomfortably, “He’s asked me to marry him a hundred times, but now that he sees how fucked up I am I don’t expect him to ask again.”
“I don’t think you realize the way he looks at you. Hell, I saw it the very first time I saw you two together. I thought he might bend you over the table and take you right there.”
I shook my head, “There was nothing between us at that point.”
“I don’t think Jamie knew that.” We heard the door, “Speak of the devil.”
Jamie walked in, came over to me and kissed me.
“Why do you look nervous, Jamie?”
“I’m not nervous, baby. Why?”
“Did you see Kaitlyn?”
“Stella, stop trying to find something that isn’t there. No, I did not see her.”
Scarlet gives Jamie a suspicious smile.
“I’ll leave you two lovebirds. I’m sure Alexander is home by now. Love you both.” With a smile and wave, Scarlet said, “Bye!” then she left.
