Jamie looked at me with a smile on his face, “Are you ready, baby?”

“Yes, where are we going?” I was excited.

“It’s a surprise.”

“Are we leaving the hotel?”

“No,” he pulls a blindfold out of his pocket.

“Jamie?” I give him a nervous look.

“It’s okay honey, I promise.”

“A weird sex game?”

He laughs, “No,”

“You’ll see. Stop asking questions. I’ve got you.”

He places the blindfold over my eyes and ties it at the back of my head.

“Can you see me?”

“No.”

“Good.”

He put his arm around my waist, and we started walking, slowly. I put my hand on his chest. Why is his heart racing? I’m the one who’s blindfolded.

“Step into the elevator baby.”

He keeps his arm around my waist, but takes my elbow with his other hand.

I do, holding onto him for dear life. Where the hell are we going?

The elevator dings and he helps me out.

“Why do I feel and smell fresh air?” I freak out a little, “Oh my God. What’s happening? Am I walking down the street blindfolded?”

“Relax baby. I’m going to take it off.” He unties the blindfold. I’m relieved.

I blink my eyes, trying to adjust to the light.

We are on the rooftop and there’s an entire aisleway made up of rose petals. There must be thousands. The entire ledge of the rooftop is lined with candles with a covering, probably so they don’t blow out. I walk straight to the edge. There’s a small table with champagne and two glasses. I look out at the Las Vegas view. The sun is setting and Las Vegas looks stunning under the brilliant sky. Where’s Jamie? Why isn’t he beside me seeing this? I turned around and Jamie was looking up at me on bended knee.

“I knew the moment I met you that you were different from any other woman I had ever met. I think I loved you even then and didn’t know it yet. When I went back to California, I realized I couldn’t breathe without you beside me. It was as if all the air escaped my lungs when you were out of my life. I need you Stella. I need you in every way. I’m so in love with you. I know you’ve said no a hundred times. Please make me the happiest man alive and be my wife. I love you and I will spend every day of our lives trying to make you as happy as you make me.”

Tears ran down my face.

“Oh Stella, please say something, baby.”

“Jamie, I’m so fucked up. I don’t know how to be a wife.”

“I don’t know how to be a husband. We will figure it out together.”

I knelt in front of him so that we’re eye level. “You deserve so much better than me.”

“I only want you. Forever. Please, never leave me. Say you’ll be mine.”
