“Or someone never stopped,” I said as I kept reading medical records on the screen. “Why are females from the universe so far from us…”

“My guess is,” he closed medical records to open up another page which was full of text, “these females are just test subjects and won’t produce offspring. Iftheycan make the medical work on someone weaker, they can modify it later on.”

“Good work,” I put a hand on his shoulder. “Any estimate how many females they brought?”

“Very rough, Captain,” like all warriors, Cyrus hated to give information he wasn’t sure about, “with Kelsey and the red head included, anything between eleven and fifteen. Could be less, could be more.”

“A lot of females.”

“Drones scanned the area around where the spaceship crashed,” he said slowly as if scared for my reaction, “there were signs of blood. Not all females survived it.”

Technology of my people was good. Sometimes too good.

Knowing there were females who had not survived the crash, I made my way out of the team’s base. We were working hard, but we had to work harder to find the females.

Kelsey

Days went by, I rarely saw Kahma during the day time. He always made a point to get home so we could spend time together, no matter how little amount it was. He was working hard trying to find other females, he didn’t often talk about what information they had found but whenever he got home, he seemed in a bad mood.

I spent my time changing up the place. Kahma had insisted I make changes to his place, to feel more at home. I didn’t let him say it twice, seeing everything dark was getting to me.

Within a couple days I had brightened up the place. He seemed to like what I had done.

“Kel-sey,” I heard him say as soon as he stepped inside the room. “How was your day?”

Kahma had been more talkative which I liked. He no longer seemed scared to tell me details about his work.

“I had an idea. Might be a bad idea but still an idea,” I felt his eyes on me as I spoke, “I want to learn how to cook with the ingredients from Ocenum. To make it easier for me… and hopefully the other females as well… I wondered, is there a way to have something that could read out recipes from your tongue? Since I can understand you through the chip, but I can’t read Ocenum, it might be useful to have them written in English.”

He stood in the doorway, not making a sound. I felt awkward standing in the kitchen while holding onto a book I couldn’t read.

“It's a bad idea, sorry I even mentioned it.”

“I like the idea,” the silver man finally said. “I could read the recipe books to you.”

“You would do that?” I looked at him, he just nodded as an answer. “Oh.”

“You don't want me to read?”

“No, no, it’s not that,” I spoke slowly while looking at his jaw that seemed tense. His whole body seemed tense. “Just that, I kinda wanted to do it while you are at the base. It won’t be much but I thought it could help out other females. Also I could try these recipes… maybe find ways to make stuff kinda similar to Earth food.”

I tried to read his expression. I had gotten better at reading his face but he had a poker face that would make anyone jealous. “I could ask Cyrus if there is anything like that.”

Smile bright on my lips, I went to him and put my arms around his body to hug him. “Thank you.”

He tensed under me, before putting his hand awkwardly on my lower back.

I felt more comfortable around him while he seemed to feel out of place whenever I touched him. Didn’t matter if it was a slight hug or my hand touching his as we passed each other. He always breathed out, not knowing what else to do.

My plan for the evening was risky. I wasn’t sure how much he was going to enjoy it, it didn’t stop me from at least trying it out once.

“I have a surprise for you,” I stepped away from him.

“Surprise?”

“Mmhm,” nodding, I took his hand and forced him to follow me to his bedroom. We slept in different rooms by my request, even though our rooms were right next to each other.

He chuckled, “sounds sinister.”
