Julius’ eyes blazed, but he nodded. “I apologize, Father. My outburst was premature. I know we need Dannika.”

Killian glared at his son. “You don’t seem to understand. She is my daughter. Dannika will have equal rights in this clan, just as you do. You or anyone else touch her again without my permission, they die.”

Julius rose from the ground. “I understand. We will follow your orders.”

Killing glanced at Raine. “Put the wolf in a cage and bring Dannika to the office. We need to plan the timing of our attack.”

The two reapers that had beaten Raine grabbed him from the ground and began dragging him away.

Dannika attempted to halt the progress by latching onto one of Raine’s assailants, but Julius grabbed her, putting his arm around her neck.

His lips brushed her ear. The sensation was like ice shards scratching her skin. “Our father won’t be leader forever. I will savor your death.”

Julius and another reaper dragged her towards the office. Her boots kicked gravel against the metal of a crashed car.

Inside the trailer, Julius dropped her in the seat before the desk. She gave Julius the middle finger as Killian sat down. Relative or not, Julius was a bigger dick than Killian.

Killian grabbed a scroll from the desk drawer and unrolled it to reveal a picture of a bowl. One with symbols carved around the rim. The writing below the bowl was in the script she didn’t recognize.

She leaned forward. “That’s the bowl from your vision.”

“It is. You need to retrieve it. Then we will have what’s needed to overthrow the shadow warriors. You must perform the spell in order to retrieve the chalice. Only a shadow with priestess blood can break the ward around the artifact.”

“You said if I helped you, the shadow clans would live.”

Killian leaned back in his chair. “And I intend to keep that promise, provided they turn reaper. There will be a new world order with me as their king.” He glanced at the symbols on the bowl. “You have taken my blood. I wonder if it has affected the unique properties of yours?”

He motioned with two fingers, and Julius grabbed her arm.

Julius bit into her skin. He reared back when his face burned.

Killian smiled. “Reaper blood has strengthened you. I wonder if we should turn you now?”

She knew Killian was taunting her. He didn’t want her to turn reaper. At least not yet. “I won’t turn reaper. You may as well kill me now.”

Killian waved his hand dismissively. “So dramatic, a trait you share with Julius.” He motioned for a reaper behind Dannika to leave. “Let’s see if you’re hungry.”

Dannika narrowed her eyes on Killian. “Whatever you’re thinking, just stop it. I won’t kill and I won’t help you.” She glanced at Julius. “Hell, even your loyal son wants to destroy you.”

Julius growled before Killian laughed.

“Of course, Julius wants to overthrow me. He is my son. Power is in his blood, but once I acquire what I need from the demon realm, no one, not even my son, will oppose me. My rule will be absolute.”

The whimpering from outside made Dannika turned towards the door. A young man, only seventeen, was ushered inside. Reapers stood on either side of him as he wept.

“What is the meaning of this? Let that poor man go,” Dannika said.

Killian strolled over to the whimpering teen. “This is a snack. One for you.”

He took out his blade and grabbed the teen’s hand. He cut along the creamy skin at the boy’s wrist.

Dannika jumped up, but Julius put a hand on her shoulder. “Leave him alone.”

Killian’s eyes flared like liquid lava. “Do you desire a taste?”

He brought the whimpering boy’s arm to his tongue, licking along the wound.

Dannika’s stomach rolled as she looked away. The sweet smell of blood and fear were a wicked combination. She recoiled from her demon’s delight. “Stop it. I won’t hurt him.”
