“Her instinct was to try and get me away from you and hidden away, but I reminded her that there was nowhere to run.”

“If you wanted to run, I could hunt you.” He sounded so helpful.

“Do youwantto hunt me?”

“Perhaps when the idea doesn’t make my blood race as it does now.”

She paused with her tongue a few millimetres from his collarbone, shrugged, and kept going. Iris lapped at him softly, enjoying the taste of him on her tongue.

He moved his hands on her under the cover of his folded wings. “You are teasing.”

“I am exploring.” She bit his chest slowly, and his hands gripped her waist and breast. She felt the tension in him and released him, asking, “Did you not want me to?”

He sighed. “After all the meetings and meals, when we are alone and you can relax fully, I am at your disposal. Right now, there is a scheduling conflict.”

She giggled. There was no other thing to do. She began to laugh, and he held onto her as she snorted and chuckled, and her tears came. He opened his wings and lifted her up, frowning. “You are crying.”

“I am laughing. The chemicals in the tears would tell you the difference under analysis.”

He dragged the tip of his tongue across her cheek. He blinked. “It is different.”

She smiled. “See?”

He licked the other cheek. “Emotional discharge with a chemical trace. Interesting.” She made a small squeak, and he chuckled. “It is interesting to taste your joy.”

She leaned as far back as she could, but he held her close until he had removed all traces of her tears.

When the tears were gone, he looked at her. “Now, why did you laugh?”

“Scheduling conflict.” She giggled. “It was a phrase used back home, and it filled my mind with a thousand thoughts.”

He kissed her, and she tasted salt. “How did you come to be with your sister during the disaster on your home world?”

“It is a long story.”

He nodded. “Fine, then tell me tonight before you sleep.”

She paused and then nodded.

He got to his feet with her in his arms. “In that case, we shall tire you out so that you seek our bed early.”

“With a walk in the gardens?”

He chuckled. “And that.”

She poked him in the arm as they left her study. “I will tire out more easily if I am walking.”

“Soon. I am making a point.”

She looked around and let her arms move, so she was wrapped around his neck.

He chuckled. “And now you are making one. The staff is going to have it brought home that you are mine.”

She grinned at him. “Subtle is not my strong suit.”

He chuckled. “Noted.”

When they walked outside, he swung her into his arms and took off.
