Was a snake tattoo that damning? Why was he playing with her? Acting friendly and joking when he probably had a million reasons to hate her? A reason that explained the attitude he'd had since Friday.

Fear seized her chest. Will the other boys know by the time she gets downstairs? She wasn't ashamed to be a Cantil, but she also was looking forward to having someone like her forher, not because her dad could murder them. She liked the idea of being a normal girl who met guys in bars and hooked up with them.

She hoped that whatever Blaine might say to them, that she could fix it. She didn't want to lose these boys that fast. She just decided what she wanted last night, damn it!

“Mykie?" A soft voice came from the doorway. "Are you alright?"

She nodded her head. She was fine. All she needed to do was brush it off until she got home.

Gentle footsteps came in her direction before they stopped in front of her. Black slacks were all she could see from her position. However, the person bent down and sat next in front of her.

"Are you alright?" Renly asked gently. "Blaine didn't say anything wrong, did he?"

She shrugged. "Nothing I wasn’t expecting."

He wrapped his arms around her shoulders and pulled her forward until she was leaning her chin on his shoulder. "Ignore him. We joked he was dropped on his head as a baby and lost his compassion for people."

He got his intended desire as she laughed at his attempt at a joke. "Why are you living with him, then?"

"He's been my best friend for a while now. We were roommates in college and our dads happened to work together," he explained. "He's nice to have around, once you get to know him."

"He just seems to have a grudge against me," she murmured. "One minute, he's fine and the next I'm Public Enemy Number One."

She felt more then heard him chuckle, his chest vibrating and shoulders raising up and down.

"I'm serious!" She huffed, pulling away from him and pushing at his shoulder to stop.

When he didn't immediately stop, she started pouting and crossed her arms. "You're being an asshole."

"Alright, alright," he said. It took another few seconds before he fully caught his breath. "I'm sorry. It's just… I don’t think Blaine thinks of you like that. He doesn't have a hateful bone in his body."

"Maybe I'm the exception," she muttered, looking away.

A finger touched under her chin, and she let Renly guide her face up until she was focused on him.

"I think youarean exception, but not in that way," he said in a soft voice. His tone sent shivers down her spine, even more so once she focused on what that voice was saying.

"What happened last night?" he asked after a moment of silence on both their parts. "One moment, you're joking with us at the bar, the next your angry and slapped me. Did Corbus say something?"

"No. Maybe. I don't know, alright?" She brought a hand up to her head, carding her fingers through the tangled locks of hair in her face. "It doesn't matter whether he said anything or not. What matters is this," she said, gesturing with a finger between their two chests.

"This?" He repeated. His brows furrowed. "What are you saying?"

"I mean, what are we doing right now? What are we?" She gulped.

"Whatever you want us to be," he said with a small smile. "I'll take what I can get."

She shook her head. "I don't know what you want from me. Until last night, I thought you had a girlfriend."

“What? When did I give you the impression of that?”

She gestured around with her hands. “Seriously? Have you seen this house? It’s way too put together for four guys to be living together in alone. I only just met you last week. How am I supposed to know if this is just a retreat for you, Friday was a bachelor party, and you’ll all disappear next week?”

“Well, I can promise you I don’t have a secret girlfriend or fiancée. I do have a woman who comes to clean the house every Saturday and a sister, if you saw me out with someone.”

“I heard someone yelling at you when I was on the phone once with Corbus,” she explained.

Renly shook his head. “I think what you heard was my sister upset because my father cut her off because she was shopping too much.”
