I groan his name when he pushes his index and middle finger deeper into my drenched core. My pussy sucks his digits in, gripping him like a glove. “So fucking tight,” he says, pressing a kiss to my temple.

I want to tell Rafe I’m falling in love with him. I want to leave it all behind and figure out if we have a future together. Locked in his strong arms. I’m scared of what he’ll say. He probably thinks I’m a teenage girl with a crush, not a woman who has found the man of her dreams out here in the woods.

Licking up the side of my neck, he runs his thumb against my clit, slowly rubbing from left to right. The orgasm rips a shout from my throat as I stagger against his chest while he holds my hands captive behind my back. Pressing his palm against my clit to draw out my moans, I start to sob and plead with him to enter me. Instead, he lets me go and takes a step back while I have trouble holding myself up.

Steadying me by my waist, I whisper, “Holy shit.” Catching my breath, I place my hand on his chest. I feel his heart beating roughly against my outstretched fingers. His erection tents his boxers; he’s as turned on as I am.

“Rafe,” I begin, staring up at him.

A flush crawls up his neck, letting go of my midriff as he grabs my wrist. “Let’s take the dogs out for a walk, before I do something we both regret,” he grumbles, running an angry hand over his bulge before turning on his heels.

What does he mean, this was a mistake, we are a mistake?

He stops and looks at me. “I’m not talking about you and me, kid,” he says before smacking my ass.

The tension engulfing me slowly fades away as his eyes drop to my mouth.

He seems lost in thought when he says, “I’ll find you some clothes of mine to wear.”

We change in silence and head outside, the dogs running in front of us while we trek through the heavy snowfall. He tells me about the land as we walk, what it was like growing up on the reservation. I sense a lot of hurt in his past, but he doesn’t dwell on the bad. Instead, he focuses on the adventures he went on with his grandfather. Making him into the man he is today. I see it too in the way he walks, with confidence, with purpose. After hiking for an hour, we circle back to my van.

“Rafe,” I begin when we reach a tree-lined area, everywhere I look beauty spreads out in front of me. Going back to the conversation we had in the kitchen, I wonderis this land all his?

“What, kid, you want to check your rig?” he asks with a curious undertone is his voice, motioning to my truck. “I’ve never fucked in a van.” He smirks.

“Shut up.” I push a finger in his abs, denting the heavy coat he’s wearing. He pulls back, laughing.

“You don’t like being tickled?” I tease, trying to do it again.

“Fuck no,” he huffs out a growl, pushing away my prying fingers.

“I need to remember that,” I tease, punching in the code to open my door. “You can come in if you want,” I say over my shoulder.

He taps his boots against the first tray, getting the snow off, and walks up the steps. His big frame occupies almost the whole space; he needs to duck a little, so his head won’t hit the ceiling.

He whistles under his breath. “Wow, it’s bigger than I thought,” he says, looking around at all the pictures I shot plastered across the wall with my little kitchen area and the bed in the back.

I rummage through my bag and pull out my phone. The battery is at two percent, and there are fifty missed messages and calls. Most are from Trent asking where the hell I’ve been, and even a couple from my father inquiring if I’m making any progress. I shoot both a quick text, telling them I’m done being their pawn. I’m done. I’m not going to marry Trent to save my dad from bankruptcy.

“You okay?” Rafe asks, suddenly standing behind me, looking over my shoulder.

I shut the phone down, push it back in my bag, and turn around. “Yeah, just some friends checking up on me.”

He cocks his head and narrows his eyes. Betty barks and Jack lets out a yelp. We both look out my little window, watching them play together in the snow.

“Want to head back in?” he asks. I nod, following him outside. With the snow not barreling down in full force, I have time to look around.

“What is that over there?” I ask, motioning with my chin to an additional building obscured behind a couple of trees.

“That’s where I work out and create my sculptures if I have the time.”

“Sculptures?” I ask, intrigued. “Those little wolf ones I saw in your room, you really made them?”

He nods as he looks down at me.

“You want to check it out?”

I shake my head. “I want to, but,” I take a deep steadying breath, “I also want more of you,” I say, biting on my lip shyly.
