He shook his head. “West said you were hallucinating, and that you were acting very strangely, not just drunk. Being pissed wouldn’t have made you attack a guy in the middle of a bar, Tory, and you know that. You may be impulsive to a fault, but you’re not an idiot.”

“Gee, thanks. I think,” I muttered, and he grinned at me.

“West took some of your blood on the car ride home. He said he could taste the drug in your bloodstream and it was pretty powerful. It affected him too, that’s why he was ranting at you. Trust me, after he slept it off, he is feeling seriously shitty about the stuff he said. Maybe give him the benefit of the doubt, yeah?”

I chose not to answer that one. “Why did he take my blood if he knew I was drugged?”

Zayn shrugged. “He thought it was GHB or something like it. Jabari told us there were some creepy guys hitting on you, and he’d been distracted a couple of times during the time you were there. They could have easily stuck something in your drink. West figured if he took some of it out of your system, you wouldn’t feel as bad this morning. It’s supposed to be pretty shocking stuff for hangovers.”

At the mention of hangovers, I groaned and slid farther down under the duvet. “So he’s not mad at me then?”

“Well, not for that... but you did make him listen to you and Jasper in the hotel room, and from what I heard, it got pretty... intense.”

I couldn’t meet his eyes. “Yeah, I found out why Jasper kept me at arm’s length during our relationship, and I tried to show him it wasn’t an issue. I guess he didn’t believe me.”

Zayn reached out and took my hand. “Hey, look, if I’m right about what you’re getting at, then I’ve been there. It’s a big deal to realise you’re turned on by hurting someone else, especially someone you care about. You feel wrong and bad and all kinds of fucked up inside. He just needs to work through it and get some help, some advice.”

I nodded.

“Do you regret what you did with him?” he asked quietly.

My gaze shot up to meet his. “Not at all.”

“Good, then when you speak with him, you act the same. No regrets, no condemnation of any kind. It might take him a while, but it’s definitely something he can come through.”

I smiled. “You are kind of an okay guy, you know?”

He grinned at me. “Me? I’m fucking amazing. Now, how’s the head?”

I grimaced. “Not great.”

“Good.” I looked up at him, and he laughed. “Cause I’m under West’s orders to feed you, and trust me, it’s a much better cure for a hangover than human medicine.”

“Um, sure, if you’re okay with it?”

“More than okay,” he reassured me.

I stared at him, suddenly shy and unsure how exactly to proceed. He grinned and slid his arm around me, pulling me against his chest.I couldn’t help it, I winced as his arm pulled right across my rather sensitive skin. He frowned.

“What’s wrong?”

“Um... last night, I… Jasper...” Understanding crept into his gaze.

“Mind if I look?” I shook my head and he stood up, moving around and lifting the hem of the shirt high enough to see.

“Okay... He’s not new to this then?”

“No, apparently he goes to this club and watches... Well, he might do other things, I don’t know. Is it bad?”

He shook his head, moving back around to face me. “No, it’s not bad. Just red marks that’ll clear in a couple of days...” He trailed off.

“What?” I asked suspiciously.

He sighed and reached down to adjust his trousers. “Nothing, I shouldn’t have looked, that’s all.”

“Don’t tell me you’re going to fly into a mad rage too?” I asked, rolling my eyes.

“No, definitely not.”
