“Hecatate has a theory.”

“It’s not a theory, Ryxa, whether you want or believe it or not, it’s true. I can sense the power inside you.”

“Power?” Seth asks, leaning his chin on my shoulder as he wraps his arms around my waist.

“Ryxa is a Goddess. I believe she is Aphrodite’s daughter.”

“Shit!” Seth swears at the same time Kier and Ty say “Fuck!”

“Now that you have rested, I would like to hear more about this bonding you Gods do with humans. It is my understanding that Gods only did that when they wanted to weaken themselves to live in the mortal world.”

“Are you going to shout ‘I told you so,’ Ryxa?” Ty laughs, squeezing my hand.

“Nope, it’s all still just a theory. Now answer the lady’s questions.” I tease, trying to get everyone back on topic.

“We were told that when a God comes into their powers, they go into a slumber that can last between one to twenty-eight days. If they’re not bonded to a human who they love, their powers don’t emerge because the God is too weak to survive the slumber without a human to feed off of and if they do bond, then their powers are only kept by sacrificing the love they have for the human. According to the teachers, we used to sacrifice the humans to death until Zeus decided that it was easier to simply wipe their memories and keep them alive.”

The entire time Kier talked, Hecatate stayed silent, but at the mention of Zeus killing people, she growled low in her throat, making the entire bed shake.

“What utter nonsense. Gods and Goddesses have been coming out of their sleep states on their own for millennia without any need for bonds with humans. The only reason I know of for a God to bond with a human is to weaken themselves. Do not believe a word of this bullsen-shite. They’ve been lying to you all.”

“So why did they force us to bond then?”

“You’re not bonded, little one. There is an obeying vow on you, but you aren’t bonded with these three. They could release you at any time if they choose to do so.”

“No, a God’s vow is for life.”

“You really need to stop listening to these teachers of yours. They know nothing of any real use. There is only one “bond” between a God and a human and that is the mate bond. It’s rare but that is for life. Of course you Gods can form a mate bond with each other as well if you are true lovers.”

“Hey Kier, she’s singing your tune.” Seth laughs, pushing him on the shoulders.

“He is not singing anything.” Hecatate says, cocking her huge head to the side.

“It’s a saying. He’s just teasing Kier because he stole a kiss from me using a fairy tale as an excuse.” I laugh at the puzzled look in her eyes. “It’s a long story, remind me to tell you about it another time. If we’re not all going to die, then why do you think they taught the Gods those lies?”

“I believe you were right, they’ve been using these fake bonds as a means to keep the Godling’s powers from reaching their full potential.”

“Running away and finding those libraries is starting to sound like a great idea now, huh?” I ask Hecatate, only half joking.

“It does, but now that you know the truth, I believe it might be your fate to fix things. After all, we don’t learn these hard truths for nothing. Righting such a wrong is the only honourable thing to do.”

“I agree with Hecatate. We can’t abandon everyone here knowing what we do. Even if they are all assholes and bitches who deserve to be punished.”

“I will help you. Under one condition. When you awaken, I would like to be free.”

“Awaken?” I ask, I don’t get the chance to find out the answer, my eyes close and darkness takes over.
