“Something interesting happened this morning,” my mom said, capturing my attention.

“Oh?” I reached under the counter to find a clean apron.

“Yes indeed, I drove to Gray’s house to pick up Daisy’s extra ballet shoes for practice tonight and I saw the craziest thing for five thirty in the morning.” I slammed my head on the shelf as I jumped to my feet.Ow, this has to be karma.

“Maybe you already know what I saw, Winnie? A Jeep parked in the back parking lot that looked just like yours, right down to the ‘I’m a Tac-Ho’ bumper sticker that I hate.” She planted her hands on her hips, giving me the mom disapproval look.

Damnit, Jo! My last birthday she took me out for the best tacos and the strongest margaritas I have ever had in my life. When we left the restaurant, she had purchased that bumper sticker and slapped it on my car, making us both roll around the parking lot with laughter. Considering my mom was the person who drove our drunk asses home, she was well-acquainted with it.

“I can explain,” I started, not really knowing how to explain anything.

“How about I take a shot at it? Your brother has been out of town, so I know for a fact you weren’t visiting him or Daisy. That leaves Sam, Monroe and Kane. Now I’ve never seen my daughter show interest in a woman, therefore I think the stunning Sam is out. Monroe was in here just the other day and I didn’t see you look at him with anything other than friendliness, I think I can cross him off the list, too. So that leaves…” she let the silence hang in the air.

“Kane,” I finished for her. “I was there seeing Kane.” I slumped heavily onto the nearest bar stool.

“Honey,” she softened. “I just don’t understand why you would be keeping this a secret from us.” It was then I realized that she wasn’t angry or upset but was hurt. The exact thing I had been trying to avoid.

“I’m sorry, Mom. It isn’t that I didn’t want you to know. It’s just that we haven’t been seeing each other this way for very long and I was worried that when we told y’all that you would be disappointed and wouldn’t approve.”

“Now, Winifred Marie James, that’s some bullshit if I’ve ever heard it. Your father and I have loved that boy for eighteen years and I can’t imagine anyone we would want to see dating our only daughter more than him.”

I didn’t know what to say. She had triple-named me so I knew she was serious. It sounded like she was glad that Kane and I were together.

“You’re right, I should’ve told you what was going on. I’m terrified of how Gray’s going to react when he finds out.”

She grimaced, “Your brother can be a little…”

“Stupid?” I supplied.

“I was going to say stubborn,” she shot that same disapproving look my way. “I want to believe that he’ll handle it well and be happy that the two of you have found each other. When are you planning on telling him?”

“We’d decided to talk to him as soon as he gets back into town.”

“I think that’s for the best, sweetheart. That way there won’t be anything hanging over the two of you. Now, are you still taking Daisy to the falls tomorrow?” Just like that, things were back to normal. The only difference was that another person knew that Kane and I were together and Gray didn’t. I couldn’t let anyone else find out before we told my brother.

That nightI lay on Kane’s chest, lazily stroking his beard. “Does this ever get itchy?”

“Sometimes, but as long as I keep it groomed it doesn’t bother me. Thinking of growing one?”

“Ha ha, no, I don’t think I would like having all that hair on my skin like that.”

“You sure liked all that hair on your skin this morning, baby.”

“Kane!” I slapped his rock-hard chest, feeling embarrassed. One day the things this man said to me wouldn’t make me blush as much.

“Am I wrong, Winnie?” One eyebrow crooked upward.

“No, you aren’t wrong, I liked it,” I mumbled, burying my face in his chest.

“You don’t sound so sure, baby,” he lifted my chin. “Maybe you need me to jog your memory.” His eyes lit with challenge. He scooted farther down until his head was resting flat on the bed. “Come on up here then.”

“Wh-What?” He couldn’t mean what I thought. I had never donethatbefore.

“I want you to sit on my face, baby, so I can rub this beard all over your pussy, and remind you of why you like it so much.”

My sex clenched and my panties grew damp just thinking about what he wanted to do to me. He gripped my hips tightly, dragging me up his chest, encouraging me to move. I inched forward, my knees straddling his body, until his hands slid under my thighs and I hovered right over his mouth.
