The lock turned with a click, and I was pleased to note she didn’t bother having one of those little useless chains. I shouldered the door the second the latch was released, reaching through the gap and grabbing a handful of her red hair, forcing her to her knees.

“We meet again, Ray.”

Her eyes flashed yellow, and I grinned. Iwantedher to turn into her demon form, and my look simply dared her to do it.Give me a reason to kill you.She hadn’t screamed when I grabbed her, only grunted as she was forced to the floor, her hands on my wrist as my fingers were next to her scalp, tangled in her hair.

Pain ignited in my other arm, and I spun, keeping my hold on Ray to find her partner’s—Ilsa, a human—teeth driving into my skin, drawing blood. With a roar of rage, I threw Ilsa from me, staring at her when her eyes also flashed the bright yellow of demonic power.

“You bonded, how sweet,” I hummed. “Now you’ve got something to lose.”

Ray said nothing but continued to fight against my grip on her hair. When she couldn’t budge it, she hissed at me before spitting out, “What the fuck do you want, Emrick?”

She continued to struggle, so I leaned in close and whispered in her ear, “Stop struggling, or I’ll make a ring of your girlfriend’s blood and torture you while you’re powerless.” Immediately she stopped moving, her eyes widening for only a moment before she glared at me. Demons had weaknesses, and even unbonded, the blood of the one a demon loved was a powerful tool and could be used as a trap to weaken and stop a demon from taking their true form.

I’d be able to torture her without her fighting back, and she’d have to watch Ilsa bleed.

“You’re up to your old tricks again…” I growled out, tugging on her hair, “… and it’s going to stopnow.”

“I don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about.”

Ilsa ran at me again, leaping onto my back. I slammed her against the wall, crushing her between the wall and me. The corner of my lip twitched when I felt the plaster crack behind her with the force of the impact. Ray screamed as she was dragged sideways. Ilsa grunted but didn’t let me go and began clawing at my eyes.

“For fuck’s sake!” I bellowed.

Letting go of Ray, I reached over my head and grabbed Ilsa’s T-shirt, bending and pulling her over my shoulders before slamming her onto the floor. With a boot on her chest, she clawed at me through my pants. I ignored her.

When Ray went to attack me, I held a finger out at her. “You touch me, and I’ll crush her ribcage into her heart.” Ray hissed at me, but I knew she was well aware I had the strength to do it. Bonded or not, Ilsa was still human and could die like one.

“Tell me what you want, Emrick.” There was no resignation in Ray’s voice, only rage. “You come into my home and attack us. What. Do. You. Want?”

“You burned down one of my buildingsagain. I thought we had an understanding.”

“I didn’t do shit.”

Scoffing, I chuckled. “Who else would it be, Ray? It’s your calling card.”

“Probably one of the many fuckers you piss off every day. I don’t care, and it’s not my problem.”

“You walked out on me. Did you think I’d just let that go? You owe me, and one day I’ll be coming to collect. But I didn’t think you’d be stupid enough to attack my territory again.”

“I didn’t do anything!” she screamed.

There was a banging from upstairs as though someone was hitting the floor to protest the noise we were making. Ray rolled her eyes and her shoulders to calm her stance.

“Emrick,” her voice was calm now. “It’s not me.”

Lifting my boot from Ilsa’s chest, she rolled out from underneath me and jumped to her feet, placing herself firmly between Ray and me.

Stupid woman.

“I saw myself in you when I first saw you with her. You connected with a human.” I stared at Ray, my gaze flickering for a moment to Ilsa. “But I don’t believe you didn’t do it. You’re still just ademon.”Eyeing them both, my fingers twitched with the need to teach them a lesson, simply for being a demon and a human weak enough to love one if nothing else. Do I give her the benefit of the doubt? It would be foolish, and Tate would never let me hear the end of it. It would seem like a weak move.

Tucking my fingers, I used the base of my palm to slam into Ilsa’s face. She cried out as blood exploded from her nose before she dropped to her knees. It would be easier to hurt her than Ray and would also send Ray a strong message.

You have something to lose.

Ray screamed in rage and fell to her knees next to Ilsa, touching her shoulders and hair, whispering comfort while Ilsa glared at me through her fingers.

“If it happens again… one more fucking time…” I held a finger up menacingly, “… I’m coming for you.”
