I nod, and spread my legs a little more for him. He does as promised, easing his way deep inside of me, stretching my walls with each push. That invisible force breaks, the pain subsides, paving the way for pleasure. I’ve never been this full before.

Our bodies dance together, finding their natural rhythm. Every position feels better than the last. My strong, handsome doctor possesses my body like it’s our last night on earth. The sweat of his body covers me, and all I can do is beg for more.

“I’m going to come Meg.” He presses his face against my neck. His hot breath sends chills up and down my arms.

“Come inside of me.”

“Are you sure?”

My nostrils flare. My hips work overtime. “I’m seconds away. Do it.” Davis’ eyes light up and his thrusts quicken, tapping a spot so deep inside of me, I’m not sure I’ll ever recover. I’m not sure I want to recover.

“Fuck,” he whispers. “I’m coming.”

The tiny earthquake deep in my core erupts, and I’m releasing every ounce of pent up tension living inside of me. All of my desire comes pouring out. My hips continue pulsing as I ride him to completion.

Davis slumps on top of me, his breath coming in ragged spurts. I trace circles along his broad, mountainous back. His shoulder blades shimmy as he shivers under my touch.

“That tickles.” With his mussed hair, sexy beard, and crystal blue eyes, he reminds me of a Viking.

“Sorry.” I say, but I don’t mean it. I wrap him in my arms, pressing him down on top of me. “You know, if this is how you’re going to persuade me to stay in Brighton Ridge,” I kiss his damp temple. Even his sweat tastes good to me. “I’m all for it.”

His muscular shoulders shake when he laughs. “This is just one part of my grand scheme to get you to stay.” He raises his brow, and smiles up at me. Goddamn he is one handsome son of a bitch. “The best part, no doubt. But there’s more, Meg. There’s so much more.”

I breathe in the smell of him, sweaty and musky, and can’t help but smile. As much as I want to deny it, from the minute I kissed him on the dock him I knew I’d be staying. That’s why I ran away. Sometimes it’s hard to give up the person you were in order to accept who you’re supposed to be. But something tells me that with Davis by my side, acceptance won’t be the chore I once thought it would be.

“Doctor Mountain Man.” I whisper into his ear, stars dancing in my eyes. “Keep this up, and you’ll never even make it out of this house.”

Epilogue

Meg

Three YearsLater

The plane makesits final descent and I gaze out the window as white, fluffy clouds are replaced by mountain tops. My trip to the city was fun, and I have the extra suitcase I had to buy from all the shopping I did to prove it, but the whole time I missed my husband. Whoever would’ve thought that a city girl like me could truly come to love living anywhere else. But, Davis was right, Brighton Ridge is a beautiful place to be. He thinks us meeting here in his hometown is fate, and I have to agree.

I gather my carry-on and deboard the plane, my heart pitter pattering in my chest like a schoolgirl about to see her longtime crush at her locker. I always walk faster after a trip to the city, but that’s not the only reason there’s a kick in my step. I bob and weave around the other passengers, head on a swivel, looking for my man, but it’s not Davis I spot first, it’s the bouquet of red roses he’s holding.

My face erupts into a smile the minute our eyes meet. I drop my bag and rush into his arms. He lifts me off of my feet, twirling me in a circle. I squeal, but love it. “I was only gone four days,” I say.

“Four days too long.” He whispers into my ear.

“Did you have fun?”

“Not as much fun as if you were there.”

“I’ll go back with you sometime.”

Not anytime soon.

My teeth sink into my bottom lip. I don’t say anything. Instead, I take Davis’ hand and we walk to the baggage carousel. I rest my head against his shoulder while we wait for my accidentally oversized luggage to make its way to us.

“You’re quiet.”

“So?”

“You’re never quiet.”

“Not true.”
