“Well,” he brushes his hair out from his eyes and I swoon like it’s the first time I’ve ever seen him. “Only when something’s on your mind.” The realization hits him. He turns to me raising his brow. “Is there something on your mind, babe?”

I knew something was up when I was in the city. Out for drinks with my friends, I couldn’t keep any booze down. Even the smell made my stomach turn. This was my first sign. I love booze. Love it. This prompted me to take a test. No, strike that…thetest.

“You know how we said we maybe wanted to have kids but if we didn’t that’d be cool too?”

“Yeah.” Davis draws out the word. “Wait…Meg, what are you?” He slaps his hand over his mouth. “Oh my God.”

My nod confirms it. Davis smiles so big, the planes flying above us probably see it. “I’m pregnant.”

“Holy shit!” He says, and clasps his hands. A little old lady turns in our direction and curls her lip at us. “Sorry,” he says, then leans closer to her. “She’s pregnant.” He laughs, clapping his hands again. “My wife,” his voice is louder this time. “We’re having a baby!”

My face flushes with heat, and I feel like I might die from embarrassment as everyone at the baggage carousel breaks into applause. I bury my face in the warmth of Davis’ chest. When the applause dies down, he lifts my chin and plants a gentle kiss on my lips. “I’m so happy, baby.”

“Me too.” I say.

“Not for long.” His nose scrunches up in that adorable way I’ve come to love. “Doctor Daddy’s on duty, now.” I roll my eyes. He’s so protective of me already. Now there are two of us for him to look out for.

“Give me a break.”

Davis presses his forehead against mine. “Fine. But I’m going to need to keep a journal for your water intake.”

“I’ll never live it down.”

“I’ll never let you.” He takes my face in his hands, and tilts my head to the side before kissing me long and deep. When the applause starts again, I’m too wrapped up in my husband to even think to be embarrassed. Being home never felt so damn good.
