His thick, dark brow furrows. “Um—”

“You can have my pie when we get back.” His forehead smooths, and it takes me a minute before I realize what I’ve said. “My sister’s pie.” I correct myself, realizing it’s not much better. “A piece of the pie that my sister made, that our bakery serves.”

Davis presses his hands into his pockets. They’re so large I can’t believe they fit.

He’s pressing me against the exam table...

“Jesus Christ.”

“What?”

“Did I say that out loud?”

Davis smiles. The tiny lines around his eyes crinkle and every nerve in my body wakes up. “You did.”

“Let’s get the hell out of here.”

He leans in closer. He’s musky and fresh. “I know just the place.”

I always headto the woods when I need to clear my head. It’s strange to have company, but there’s no one I’d rather be with than Meg. We head down the path, Meg a few steps in front of me. Her hips sway from side to side and I’m absolutely mesmerized at their perfect shape. She’s shaped like a renaissance goddess. I can’t wait to get my hands on her and see if she feels as soft and smooth as she looks.

“Keep going straight?” She turns and catches me staring at her ass. A man can’t help it. I won’t apologize.

“In just a few paces the path widens.” Meg nods and keeps on the trail. I lick my lips, thinking about what those full, ruby lips of hers taste like. The path widens and I fall in step with her. She looks up at me and smiles. It’s more beautiful than anything out here in nature, and that’s saying something. I love the woods, and until today I’d never seen anything more beautiful.

“So Harvard, huh?” She tiptoes cautiously along the path. “That’s major. You probably have your pick of where to work. What are you doing here?” She scrunches her face.

“It’s my home.”

“Oh.” She purses those sexy lips of hers. I’ll burst if I don’t kiss her soon. “So, you went to Harvard and came back?”

I nod. “Sure did.”

“Homesick?”

“Not quite. My father was sick. He practiced medicine here in Brighton Ridge all his life.” I take a deep breath, pushing the emotion back down into the depths of my gut. “When he died, I decided to take over the practice.”

“Where were you before?”

“New York City.”

Meg stops dead in her tracks and presses her hand against my arm. “You lived in the city, too?” Her dark blue eyes look dazzling in the afternoon sun. Heat prickles my skin where her hand sits.

“I was assigned a cardiology residency there.”

“I’m from the city. Well, not originally, but,” she huffs out a little laugh. “I consider it my home.” She moves her hand, and I immediately regret not placing my hand over hers to let her know how much I’m enjoying her company. We continue down the path. “I can’t wait to go back.”

“Really?” I tilt my head down in her direction.

“Yeah. I miss everything about it.” Leaves crunch under our feet. “Don’t you?”

“Not at all.”

“You’re kidding me. Why?”
