I blinked, frowning in confusion. “They treat me well.”

“I need more.”

“Luke, what is going on? The pack treats me well. They’ve accepted me, as much as they can accept a witch.”

Luke blew out a breath and his wolf faded from his eyes. His posture relaxed to normal and I watched him almost literally morph back into my friend. My hand was wrapped loosely around my neck, unconsciously trying to protect myself from him. Luke glanced over at me, looking slightly guilty.

“Sorry,” Luke said, turning away and starting to walk back toward town. My mouth dropped open and I stuttered, not really understanding what the hell just happened.

Amara

I groaned, shifting slightly and feeling something soft underneath me. I peeled my eyes opened and blinked, trying to get my eyes to adjust to the light. I realized the reason why my eyes weren’t adjusting properly was because it was pitch black. I couldn’t remember where I was and all I knew was that I felt like I had been hit by a truck.

“Amara?”

Dean’s voice was soft and rough, causing shivers to run down my body. I moaned, hating and loving my response. I shifted again, feeling around and realizing I was lying on a bed. I inhaled deeply and pulled myself up, cringing at the pain that flowed through me. “Amara, you need to take it easy. You’ve been out for four hours.”

I turned in the direction of Dean’s voice, panic starting to rise. “Four hours! Why didn’t anyone wake me up?”

Dean snorted. “We tried. You were out.”

I swung my legs off the bed and stood up slowly, making sure I wasn’t about to keel over and face plant into the floor. I could hear Dean moving closer to me, ready to swoop in if I needed him. It made a warm feeling build low in my stomach and I had to actively squash those feelings down. That was not something I could deal with right now. We had way too much going on.

“Can we turn on a light or something?” I asked, putting my arms out and trying to feel for the wall. The light flipped on almost immediately. I blinked, dropping my arms and frowning at Dean, who was leaning against the doorframe.

“Alright…thanks.”

Dean nodded, staring intensely at me. The memory of the fight that had broken out between Luke and Dean before I passed out. I sucked in a sharp breath and stepped toward him. He raised an eyebrow. “How are you?” I asked.

“I should be the one asking you that.”

“Well, you were the one who got into a huge fight with an Alpha. Are you still injured? Can I do anything?” I asked, getting even closer to him, and scanning him up and down. I didn’t see any injuries immediately, but they could have been hidden.

Dean tilted his head, his stare becoming even more intense. I wanted to insist that he tell me exactly what happened, but I knew from experience that pushing a wolf wasn’t a good idea. “What do you remember, Amara?”

I shrugged. “I don’t remember much. You and Luke got into a fight after Sam slapped me. After that, everything is a blur and fuzzy. I don’t really know much else.”

“You healed both of us.”

“I’m sorry…what?”

“You healed Luke and I, with your weird magic. The same thing you did to heal Lily. After that, you passed out,” Dean explained. I sucked in a sharp breath. I closed my eyes and stumbled backward, dread filling me. I could hear Dean move forward, felt him grab my arms and keep me upright. He eased me backward and lowered me onto the bed. My breathing became shallow and I started hyperventilating.

Dean pressed a large hand on my chest and another one on my back. He applied some pressure and it felt like my whole nervous system was decompressing. I took a few shuddering breaths, trying to get myself to calm down. Dean lowered to his knees in front of me, keeping the pressure on my chest. I could see a spark of something flit through his eyes as he realized that he was on his knees in between my legs.

The panic started to dispel and I started to laugh. Dean’s face started to blush bright red and looked a bit uncomfortable. My laughter increased, causing him to release his hold on my chest. He pulled away and sat back on his heels, dropping his hands into his lap. My laughter slowed a bit and I smiled down at him. He shook his head and stood up, moving away from me.

“Are you two done?” Luke called into the room. I jerked in surprise, turning to look at him standing in the doorway. Dean looked less surprised. I scowled, hating that wolves were so good at being silent and at hearing things. I hated being surprised when the wolves already knew what was going on around us.

“Yes, we’re done,” Dean replied, his voice gruff and filled with ice. I eyed him, wondering what had happened while I had been passed out. I took a deep breath and stood up.

“Where is Sam? I need to speak with her,” I directed my question to Luke. He raised an eyebrow at me, crossing his arms over his chest. I did the same, waiting for his response.

“She’ll be along soon enough,” Luke replied, turning around and walking away. I glanced at Dean with a question in my eyes and he shrugged in response. We followed after Luke, watching him kick a chair over and then sigh and pick it back up. I glanced at Dean, who again didn’t do anything but shrug in response. I shook my head and walked over to where Luke was standing. He had his hands on his hips and was staring at the ground.

“Luke? What’s going on?”
