“Be your voice?”

“Yes, Amara, even the Goddess Leto needs help sometimes. You have been chosen to be my Earthly conduit,” She responded with a chuckle. I gaped at her, not really sure what to say to something like that.

“I thought Sam is your Earthly conduit?” I finally managed to say. Leto smiled, looking amused.

“Sam is Goddess touched. She’s someone who has access to my powers and is able to communicate with me, but you’re my conduit. I’ve waited for you to grow into your powers for a long time.”

“Why me? I’m just a human. Sam is a witch. Why not make her your conduit?”

Leto laughed, a twinkling and light sound. It made me lightheaded and caused every thought in my mind to go blank. When she stopped laughing, she wiped an imaginary tear away from her eye. “I’m sorry. I don’t mean to laugh, but I’ve never had any one actively try to refuse a gift I have bestowed upon them. Usually, it’s give me more, I want more power. So, this is a refreshing and interesting new development for what normally happens.”

I blushed, glancing away from her. “Well, I just don’t think I can do this position justice. I think you’ve got the wrong person.”

She just smiled patiently and shook her head. “No, I haven’t, but it’s sweet that you think that. I am going to tell you the short version of your story, as we haven’t much time left. Let’s settle down here, in the shade of the mountain.”

I glanced where she gestured, noticing a table and some chairs that I hadn’t seen before. It was one of those proper outdoor tables that was pure white, with splashes of flowers that made it look dainty. I lowered myself onto a chair and perched on the edge, doing my best not to make it collapse.

“Amara, you are a witch. I know you’re just learning what that means, but there’s more. You’re a descendant of the original witch. This means you’re also my descendant, because she was my sister.”

I blinked, my mouth dropping open and silence descending upon us. Leto smirked, looking thoroughly pleased at having stunned me into silence. I realized I was staring and snapped my jaw closed, clearing my throat. “What do you mean I’m your descendant? I’m just a slave of the wolf shifters. I am not important.”

“Amara, let’s not pretend like you know what you’re talking about. I know this is all very new for you and you’re a little freaked out, but you are one of my descendants. You don’t really get to choose whether you are or not. It’s already been decided and come to pass. This means you’re going to have some powers that a normal witch will not have access to, but this comes with a downfall - you’ll be hunted by every power-hungry being on Earth.”

“Oh joy,” I rolled my eyes. I didn’t think things could get any worse than being mated to Dean, but Leto just managed to surpass all of that. I huffed out a sigh and ran my hand through my hair, my fingers snagging on a few tangles.

“There’s more,” Leto continued, at least having the decency to look slightly guilty. I closed my eyes and took a steadying breath.

“Just tell me.”

“In order to secure Jason’s kingdom properly, you’ll need to gather allies. You’re going to find out there is more to this world than what you and the rest of the wolves are aware of - be warned, not all are friendly to your cause. You need to keep your eyes peeled and do what you can to keep everyone from overreacting to the knowledge you’ll be getting soon,” Leto said. I raised an eyebrow.

“Is there anything more specific you can give me?”

“I’m afraid not.”

“Well, that’s helpful, I guess. Anything else you need to tell me and blow my entire world up?” I asked with a sigh. Leto chuckled, shaking her head.

“I think I’m all out of life-changing news,” She smiled at me. “You’ll be going back now. Don’t freak out too much.”

I frowned at her, annoyed at the way she seemed to enjoy my confusion and frustration at the whole situation. She gave me a small wave while the feeling of falling started again. I blinked and realized I was back in the bedroom with Sam.

“Are you okay?” Sam asked. I realized I was hyperventilating with the adrenaline that had flooded my system. I pulled my hands away from Sam’s grip and nodded. I wiped my hands on my knees, getting as much as sweat off as I could.

“Hello, girls,” A man standing in the doorway said. He stepped forward and his mouth split into a cruel grin.

“Jack.”

Dean

We burst through the front door of Sam’s home and skidded to a stop in the middle of the front room. I lifted my snout in the air and sniffed, catching Sam and Amara’s scent. Another familiar scent flooded my senses and made my blood run cold. Luke started to growl as he prowled forward. It was inconvenient that we weren’t in the same pack and couldn’t communicate in wolf form.

I couldn’t decide if I should stay in wolf form or shift. I decided to shift, since we had both Luke and Jake who were still in wolf form. I let Luke walk toward the bedroom Amara and Sam had been in while I pulled my wolf back. He wasn’t happy - he was ready to tear into the threat’s throat. He did let me pull him back enough to complete the shift, since he knew that it would be most helpful for me to in control.

“Jack is here.”

Luke and Jake both glanced up at me, then let out louder growls, snarling and snapping their jaws. I silently moved to the bedroom, looking at Luke to see if he’s ready for me to open the door. His wolf bobbed his head and I twisted the door knob, throwing the door open. Luke jumped inside, snarling and growling. Jake was on his tail, entering the room in the same form. It was a moment of silence and then I shoved into the room, not able to bear the unknown.
