I walked down the steps and made my way to where Dean was standing. Luke looked up at me, shaking his head. I frowned, clenching my fists in determination and pressed forward. Luke was not about to stop me from helping Dean - especially if he was supposed to be my mate.

“Dean, turn around.”

“Amara, I’m going to arrange for someone to get you back to the castle. I can’t guarantee your safety any longer. I am removing myself from the position as Beta, so that someone worthy can take over and protect you and Jason. I’m unfit for the position and to be your mate. I apologize for my shortcomings,” Dean said without turning to look at me. He spoke in an oddly formal, disconnected voice.

Luke gave me a sympathetic look and I realized what was happening - Dean was trying to pull away from me. I clenched my jaw, determination flooding through me as I made up my mind. I marched around the two of them, planting myself in front of Dean with my hands on my hips. He avoided meeting my eyes, doing his best to make himself a less imposing person. I scowled, having enough of this.

I drew my arm back and punched Dean in the stomach as hard as I could. It wasn’t as hard as I wanted, my hand hitting the muscular plains of his abs and immediately bursting into pain. He did bend over a bit, letting out a surprised ‘oof’ as he cradled his stomach. I nodded, satisfied that I had done as much as I could physically. Now, I needed to finish this up with an impassioned speech.

I was gearing up to lay everything out on the table when Luke started laughing his ass off. He bent over at the waist, holding his stomach, letting out a loud honking laugh. He inhaled deeply, using his entire body to take the breath, and then let out another laugh, this one accompanied by a snort. I raised my eyebrows, glancing at Dean, who looked just as put off and confused by Luke’s reaction. I leaned to the side, meeting Sam’s eyes and she shrugged.

“Luke?” I asked, slowly, trying not to startle him. He shook his head, wiping a tear away from his eye, chuckling silently to himself.

“That was too good. I want to see that again,” Luke replied in between a few chuckles.

“Luke, maybe we should leave the two of them to sort through whatever this is. I have a feeling it’s going to be messy and you don’t need to be there to make it any worse,” Sam suggested, jerking her head at her home and gesturing for Luke to follow her inside. He clapped a hand on Dean’s shoulder and then walked back to the house, holding the door open above Sam’s head and letting her go inside first.

I turned back to Dean, completely confused. “Well…that was…interesting.”

Dean snorted, rubbing his stomach. “Tell me about it.”

“Dean…”

He froze at the sound of my voice, which had gone soft and pleading. He looked down at me, his gaze softening, but everything else about him still seeming to be placed behind a wall. I narrowed my eyes up at him.

“It’s time, Dean,” I said, crossing my arms.

“Time for what?” He asked, taking a step back. I smirked.

“It’s time to admit that going on like this isn’t going to work. We can’t do it. We need to admit what’s happening here and figure out how we mean to go on.”

“And…how do we mean to go on?”

I rolled my eyes and threw my arms around his neck, feeling his arms circle around my waist as he held me in place. “Kiss me, you idiot.”

Dean’s mouth dropped open as he stared at me. I decided I was done waiting for him to do anything about this and pressed my lips firmly against his. I kissed him with everything I had, trying to communicate how much I wanted this and how I felt after everything we’d been through.

When we pulled away, Dean shuddered and lowered me to the ground. I smiled up at him. Then, I took him by the hand and led him back into Sam’s house. Once inside, we all sat on the couch, getting comfortable.

“Alright, where was I? Oh, right. The next day or so was filled with pain from Jack. He tortured me, sticking knives in pretty much every inch of my skin. I was close to dying - honestly, I was beyond ready to die. Jack talking about death like it was this separate entity. Like it had a personality and everything. He kept saying he had invited it to come take me away and I wasn’t opposed to it at the time,” I explained. Dean’s face flushed red and his jaw was clenched so hard that I could hear the squeak of his teeth grinding together.

I stood up and dropped into Dean’s lap. He looked up at me in surprise. Sam squeaked then covered her mouth quickly, trying to cover her shock. Luke and Jake exchanged looks, but everyone remained silent. I continued on like nothing had changed, wrapping my arm around Dean’s neck and running my fingers through the hair at the base of his neck. He shivered slightly, his chest rumbling with a pleased vibration.

“Anyway, he was just about to kill me when there was a large explosion outside. He was distracted by that, staring out of the window. While he was doing that, there was what felt like a blast of wind. Of course, now that I’m not completely blind-sided by pain, I realize that a blast of wind inside a house with no open windows or doors is not a normal thing. Anyway, there was the wind and then I felt this warmness in my stomach. It kind of built up and expanded throughout my body. With the expanse of that warmness, the pain receded and my wounds healed up almost instantly. Then I thought to have the cuffs on my arms to release me and it did. I’m not really sure what it was or what it meant, but I stood up and then kicked Jack’s ass. After that, I walked out of the building he was keeping me in and walked toward the fighting that was happening with the rebels. You guys know the rest,” I explained, shrugging at the end of my story. I smiled at Luke and Sam. Dean shifted underneath me and I turned to him, trying to hide the fact that I had forgotten I was sitting on his lap. He looked pissed and uncomfortable - not that I was going to move off of him. He was quite comfortable for a brooding wolf shifter.

“Well…that is quite the story,” Jake said. He stood up, stretching and looking everywhere but at me and Dean. He walked quickly through the front door, doing his best to avoid looking at all of us. Sam and Luke glanced at each other and then at me.

“Wait, how did you save Sam from dying?” Luke asked. I sighed, running a hand through my hair, shifting on Dean’s lap. He gripped my hips, keeping me from moving any more. I pressed my lips together in an attempt not to show my amusement. Sam eyed me with my own amusement reflected back at me.

“So, from what I understand, when the explosion and wind happened while I was in Jack’s hands, was a result of Sam’s power leaving her body and flowing into me. That’s why I was able to heal myself and escape from Jack. That type of thing. I saved her because her soul - her essence - was making its way toward the Goddess. Jake and you, Luke, called her back, which slowed down her ascent. I funneled the power she gave me back into her body, which gave her enough power and strength to come back to her body. It essentially healed and fueled her spirit and body,” I explained.

“Fuck,” Luke said, running his hand through his hair and then down his face.

“Yeah, I know,” Amara responded. She squirmed again in my lap, causing my cock to grow even harder than before. I was having a really hard time not throwing her on the couch and taking her right now. It didn’t help that she was basically planted on my dick with her lucious ass and gripable hips. I had to grip those hips again to get her to stop moving.
