Part One

THE BATTLE KING

ChapterOne

LUCA

Imust have killed the right criminal to deserve this life. There was no other explanation for why I was lucky enough to call Alex my wife. She was perfect, everything I ever wanted.

Thanks to Giovanni Angeli, we had the entire beach to ourselves. The Sicilian Mafia boss arranged for us to have one last day where no one would bother us. Not even tourists were allowed to step foot anywhere near this place. His men had set up a perimeter that forced people to drive in the opposite direction.

I sat on the blanket beside Marcello, watching Alex come for Bash. Her eyes flicked between us as she rode my brother into the sand, her blond curls bouncing on her big tits. Damian was on the other side, rubbing his hand over her sweet ass.

We fucking loved her.

Worshiped her.

There wasn’t anything we wouldn’t have done for our queen.

Alex was seven months pregnant and technically not allowed to travel overseas. Not with her C-section planned for the end of the month. But we needed an escape, so I coordinated with doctors in Italy just in case she went into labor.

Out of breath from coming so hard, Alex put one hand over her heart, the other on her baby bump that seemed to grow every day.

When my phone rang, she glanced at me with one eyebrow raised. “Luca.”

I held up my hand. “I know, baby.”

I promised no calls.

We’d almost made it one week without interruptions. I instructed the Knights not to disturb us unless it was a dire emergency. So when Sonny Cormac’s name flashed across the screen, I had to take the call. He wouldn’t have disobeyed my orders without cause.

Alex leaned over to look at the Caller ID. “It must be important. You should get it.”

I put the phone on speaker so everyone could hear. “This better be good, Cormac.”

“Drake is gone.” Sonny struggled to catch his breath. “The Lucaya Group blew up his lab at Battle Industries.”

Alex covered her mouth with her hand and gasped. “No.”

We’d lied to Alex for the past month, telling her everything was okay. That Drake was safe. It was a precaution to keep her from panicking, which wasn’t good for her or the twins.

“You need to get home,” Sonny continued. “You’re not safe.”

Just like that, our honeymoon ended with the phone call I dreaded. I planned the trip to get Alex out of Devil’s Creek. We hadn’t had the opportunity to leave the country, not with multiple threats hitting us at every angle. My brothers agreed a vacation would be a good change of pace—something to take Alex’s mind off all the darkness in our lives.

Until last year, we thought The Lucaya Group killed Bastian and Damian’s parents. It was the lie Fitzy told to keep us from discovering his deception. The terrorist group had other reasons for attacking The Devil’s Knights.

They wanted Drake Battle.

Drake developed artificial intelligence software that put him on the radar of tech giants, worldwide governments, and even crime syndicates. A powerful software that, in the wrong hands, could start a war.

People feared artificial intelligence and had every right to do so. That was the reason Drake canceled the program. The beta of Lovelace was too unstable to release into the world. Unfortunately, our enemies knew about it because of all the press.

Some people claimed Drake was a billionaire set on taking over the world. Others believed he was a genius, a pioneer ahead of his time. There was nothing like Drake’s software on the market.

“Get home now,” Sonny said into the receiver with panic in his tone. “The Knights need their leader.” He paused for a moment. “There’s one more thing… I found a girl in a Mac Corp shipping container. She’s the daughter of Cian Doyle.”

Marcello took the phone from my hand. “Are you fucking kidding me, Son?”
