For years, I’d been learning from Drake. He taught me the basics of hacking and navigating his software. I used his tech for missions with Alpha Command. But none of those jobs ever had this high of a fail factor.

“I can assist,” Cole added. “Drake gave me full access to Lovelace. I have the authorization codes.”

Luca nodded. “How confident are you that you’ll find Drake?”

“We’ve narrowed his location to a one-mile radius of three possible places.”

My brother scrubbed a hand across his jaw and sighed. “We don’t have enough resources to send men to three locations.”

“Yeah, I know.” I released a frustrated breath of air. “Give me a few hours. I should have a better idea where to start.”

“Lovelace optimizes over time,” Cole told him.

“Tate Maxwell is with Drake.” Luca leaned back in the chair, his jaw set hard. “The Lucaya Group will use Tate to get the software from Drake.”

Tate Maxwell was an associate of The Devil’s Knights. He was also Drake’s best friend and head of security.

Drake found Tate and his sister, Olivia, back in high school. They had escaped one of many foster homes and were living on the streets. Even though Tate initially resisted his help, he eventually let Drake feed and clothe them and pay for their education.

“That’s not possible,” Cole informed us. “Even if they had the access codes, Lovelace is split into pieces. Some of the AI/DL data is on the cloud, where they could access it with the correct codes. But most of the software is on data servers not connected to Wi-Fi. Even I don’t know all of the secure locations.”

“Tate knows,” Luca pointed out. “He’s Drake’s head of security and would need that information to guard the server sites properly.”

Cole nodded to confirm.

Sonny slid his arm across my neck and pulled me closer. “If you die on me, I’ll find a way to have you reincarnated, so I can kill you myself.” Sonny laughed. “Alex needs you. We all need you. So you better come back to us in one piece.”

“Don’t worry about me. I can handle this mission.”

Sonny shoved his hand through my hair to mess it up. “I want to go with you.”

“No, you’re needed here.”

“You have a job to do, Cormac.” Luca threw out his hand to dismiss him. “Deal with the Irish.” He tipped his head at Sonny’s younger brothers. “All of you. Go!”

Sonny shook his head, his lips parting as if he were about to talk back to Luca.

I grabbed his shoulder to silence him. “Not now,” I said in a hushed tone, begging him with my eyes not to challenge my brother, who was not in the mood for Sonny’s sarcasm. “I’ll see you when I get back, okay?”

“Damn right you will.” My best friend hugged me, patting my back. “See ya soon, Cello.”

“I’ll be back before you know it.”

Sonny gave me one of his pretty boy smirks and left the temple with his brothers.

“The two of you should go back to the house,” I said to Luca as my gaze swept over to Bastian. “Alex will get worried if you’re gone for too long. Cole and I need to review the footage from Battle Industries and run a few tests to optimize Lovelace.”

Luca rose from the throne and straightened his lapels, his intense blue eyes on me. “We’ll see you at home. Be ready to leave tonight.”

I tapped Cole on the shoulder, and he followed me out of the room. We walked down the narrow hallway lit by wall sconces.

I thought about the first time we brought Alex down here, and she passed out from a panic attack. That was Luca’s doing. He wanted to scare her, make her understand she would one day become the queen of our corrupt organization.

“Are you sure about this?” Cole said as we navigated the passage. “Because I’m not. We need Drake to plan properly.”

“If we can narrow down Drake’s exact location, it’s because they want us to find them.”

“An ambush,” Cole said in a hushed tone. “I figured as much. Look, Marcello, I just had a baby. Hale isn’t even a day old. Grace is a strong woman, so she’s pretending like this isn’t killing her. But she needs me. So does my son.”
