“You’re not going to get away so easily Dawn, you spike our curiosity and then don’t say anything.” I sigh in frustration.

“Don’t be pushy Mystique, if she doesn’t want to talk about it then leave her.” I smile at Dakota silently thanking her.

“Hmm, fine.” Mystique relinquishes her questioning, but I can see the gleam in her eye knowing that she will try to get the information out of me one way or another. “I will get you coffee and some lunch because you have already missed breakfast. I was also thinking that after lunch we can go for a walk so, I can show you around.”

“That sounds great, thank you.” I murmur looking around for the first time to admire the kitchen. They have a beautiful rustic kitchen with wide, long counters. I can hear the birds from where the door stands open to one side. It seems so nice and peaceful here, no one would ever guess sitting here that this is a Motorcycle club, and the men of this club are Lycans.

“When I arrived yesterday you mentioned that someone had been killed, did you know her?” Dakota nods, sadness evident in her eyes.

“Good thing you mentioned it, I must warn you Dawn.” Mystique says placing her hand over mine, “you need to be on guard all the time, there is a serial killer on the loose.”

“You mentioned yesterday, but after the surprise Fang gave me, I completely forgot about it.” I confess, embarrassed that a woman was killed and all I could think about was that my mate turned me down.

“Various women have been killed, I was in two minds about inviting you, but we can’t live in fear and let whoever is killing, scare us from living our lives.” I agree with her, but the thought that there is someone out there targeting women and the police haven’t been able to catch him is worrying.

“How long has he been killing?” I ask

“Well, it’s been a couple of years, whoever it is stopped for a while and then it restarted a couple of months ago.” Dakota updates as she brings me a cup of coffee.

“Thank you,” Taking the coffee from her I take a sip closing my eyes in pleasure. I love my coffee, but Dad has only ever let me drink one a day as he says it makes me too hyper. “Don’t they have any suspects?” I continue to ask, curious to how no one has been caught yet. I see the two women looking at each other again and then Mystique shrugs as she once again looks at me.

“Well, they have suspected the Wolverine MC for a long time.” Her revelation has me tensing, is she saying that it could be one of the men here at the club. “It’s no one here though,” she quickly interjects before I can start thinking all kinds of things.

“The only reason why they have suspected the Wolverine MC in the past is because the killer has targeted us as scapegoats.” Dakota takes a seat next to me, “You see, it was our men that first found the killers burial ground, we think that because of that he is holding a grudge against the club and is trying to frame us in taking the blame at every opportunity.”

“The girl he killed, owned the hairdressers in town. She was well known to all of us and a really friendly and liked person in Town.” Mystique says

“He has previously targeted women that the club has known one way or another, that’s why you need to be careful and always have someone with you at all times.” Dakota warns, I have never been one for caution, if anything I have always found myself in sticky situations.

“I’m sure everything will be fine.” I appease, “after showing me around I would like to look for Gunner, our conversation was cut short, I would like to talk to him.” Mystique nods a big smile on her face as she places a plate of food before me.

“You know Dawn, I believe that you are just what Gunner needs.” I think that she might be mistaken, but after knowing why he has been so rude to me and how much internal pain he must be going through, I have decided that I’m going to show Gunner that life isn’t as bleak as he is seeing it now, I will take his mind off what happened to him no matter what.

GUNNER 5

I swear the woman is a menace, one minute I think she’s about to shatter into a million pieces. Her sad eyes pulling at something deep within me and then the next she is exasperating me. “Damn menace,” I mutter throwing the spanner against the wall.

“It can’t be that bad,” I glance over my shoulder at King leaning against the door frame to the Workshop. As the Wolverine President and the pack leader he is a force to be reckoned with. I would die for King like any of the other pack members and we know that he would always do everything in his power for any of us.

Grunting I look back at what I was doing, the sprocket halfway in, the spanner on the other side of the workshop on the floor. “You want to talk about it?” King asks as he approaches to come and stand before me on the other side of my Harley.

“Have you seen her?” I ask as I walk towards the spanner to pick it up.

“I’m guessing you are talking about your mate?” King asks with a raised brow continuing when I grunt in confirmation. “I haven’t seen her, but I hear that she’s an interesting girl.”

“Interesting is an understatement,” I mutter, walking back to continue with what I was doing. “She’s argumentative, doesn’t listen to what people tell her, and completely dippy.”

“Mmm,” King murmurs which has me looking at him to see his eyes on me. “Sounds like just what you need.” I straighten up from where I’m leaning over my bike to glare at him.

“You know why I can’t be with her; my wolf is on a constant rage and the way she revs me up I’ll most probably kill her on the first day.” I snap frustrated that the fates decided to send me my mate now after everything that has happened.

“Tell her what happened, she will understand.” King suggestion just ignites my anger as I think of how that conversation went this morning.

“Tell her?” I snap, “I tried that, and you know what she didn’t listen to what I was saying. She completely misunderstood and made up her own truth in her head.” The more I talk about it the angrier I get, “Do you know that she thinks that I was castrated?” I see Kings eyes widen and then a grin splits across his face. “Don’t you dare find this funny.” I growl seeing the amusement in his eyes.

“How did she come to that conclusion?” his voice is filled with amusement.

“Who knows, but then she was being all apologetic and sorry for me. So, I fucking left because she doesn’t listen.”
